NEET re-exam tougher than May paper

NEET re-exam tougher than May paper

NEET UG re-exam 2026 tests deeper concepts, experts call paper tougher than main exam

The NEET UG re-exam 2026 was held on June 21, and many students found the paper harder than the original exam held in May. According to education experts, this year’s re-exam tested students’ understanding of concepts more deeply and focused more on analytical thinking instead of simple memory-based questions.

Experts said the overall difficulty level of the paper was between moderate and difficult. Compared to the first NEET exam on May 3, this re-exam was clearly tougher, especially in Physics and Chemistry.

The paper was reviewed by Nabin Kaarki, National Academic Director – Medical at Aakash Educational Services Limited. He said students needed strong concepts and better time management to perform well in the exam.

This re-exam was conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after certain issues in the earlier exam led to a re-test for some candidates. To maintain fairness and transparency, the NTA also introduced strict security checks, including Aadhaar verification, CCTV monitoring, and GPS tracking of question papers.

For many students, this re-exam was very important because their future medical admissions depend on these marks.

Physics and chemistry challenge students

According to experts, Physics was the toughest section in the paper. It was also the longest and took the most time.

Most of the Physics questions came from important topics like Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Modern Physics, and Thermodynamics. These chapters are usually considered important, but this time the questions were more application-based.

Students had to solve many numerical problems, and these questions required multiple steps. Because of this, many students felt pressure while managing time.

Some students said they knew the concepts but still found it hard to complete the section because of the length of the questions.

Chemistry was also tougher than expected.

Experts said the Chemistry section was harder than the May exam. Physical Chemistry had long calculations and mixed concepts, which made it time-consuming.

Organic Chemistry also tested deep understanding. Instead of direct questions based on reactions, students had to understand reaction mechanisms properly.

This made the paper difficult for students who rely only on memorising formulas and reactions.

Inorganic Chemistry remained mostly simple, but overall the section still felt harder because of the balance of questions.

Many experts believe this year’s paper shows a shift in NEET’s pattern. Instead of checking only textbook knowledge, it is now testing whether students can apply what they have learned.

This could be an important sign for future NEET exams as well.

Biology remains scoring, results likely next month

Biology was the easiest section in the paper, according to experts.

Like previous years, Biology followed the NCERT textbook very closely. Students who studied NCERT properly were able to answer most questions confidently.

Important chapters included Genetics, Human Physiology, Reproduction, and Ecology. These chapters had the highest weightage in the exam.

Experts said Biology remained the highest-scoring section, which may help students improve their overall marks.

However, there was some confusion in Zoology. A few questions reportedly had options where more than one answer seemed correct. This created doubt among some students.

Because of this, many students are now waiting for the official answer key to check their responses.

Based on the difficulty level of the paper, experts have predicted that the cut-off for general category students may be between 590 and 600 marks.

This is slightly lower compared to what many expected from the original May exam, mainly because the re-exam was tougher.

The NTA is expected to release the NEET UG re-exam answer key by June 28. Students will be able to download it from the official website and compare their answers.

The result is likely to be announced by the end of July.

To check the result, students will have to visit the official NEET portal and enter their application number and date of birth. After logging in, they can download their scorecard.

Looking at previous years, NEET results usually come within a few weeks of the exam. In 2025, results were announced on June 14. In 2024, the re-exam result came on June 30.

This year’s result may take a little more time because it is a re-exam.

For students, the wait now begins. Many are hopeful, while others are nervous after facing a tougher paper.

Experts advise students not to panic and wait for the answer key before making any assumptions about scores.

Overall, the NEET UG re-exam 2026 proved to be a serious test of conceptual understanding. It rewarded students who had strong basics, clear thinking, and good problem-solving skills.

The exam has once again shown that success in NEET is no longer just about memorising facts. It now requires deeper learning, better strategy, and smart preparation.
