Indian man sentenced to life imprisonment in UK for child rape and attempted rape
Navroop Singh, a 24-year-old Indian man, was sentenced to life in prison in the UK for a series of serious crimes. He was found guilty of raping a child under 13, assaulting a child under 13 by penetration, and attempting to rape a woman in west London. The court decided he must serve at least 14 years before he can be considered for release.
The crimes took place in October 2024. The first incident happened in Southall Park, Ealing, where Singh tried to rape a woman in her 20s. He threatened her with an imitation gun he had made himself. The woman managed to escape and found two off-duty police officers nearby, who helped her reach the police station. Ten days later, a child was raped in another park, Hayes End Park, Hillingdon. Police quickly realized the two cases were connected.
Police Investigation
The Metropolitan Police launched a major investigation. Officers used forensic evidence, CCTV footage, and witness statements to identify and track down Singh. He was arrested near his home just a few days after the second crime. The police said that their quick and thorough work helped prevent further harm to others.
Singh pleaded guilty to three charges:
-
Rape of a girl under 13
-
Assault of a girl under 13 by penetration
-
Possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an offence
He was also found guilty of the attempted rape of the woman in Southall Park after a four-day trial at Isleworth Crown Court.
Acting Chief Superintendent Sean Lynch, who led the investigation, praised the bravery of the victims and their families for coming forward. He said the conviction showed the police’s commitment to protecting women and children and bringing dangerous offenders to justice. The police also said they are increasing their efforts to tackle violence against women and girls, using more specialist teams and advanced investigation methods.
