Alcaraz targets third Wimbledon crown confidently

Fearless Carlos Alcaraz eyes third Wimbledon title with growing confidence

Carlos Alcaraz, the 22-year-old tennis star from Spain, is preparing to defend his Wimbledon title once again. After winning Wimbledon twice in a row, he is aiming for his third straight victory at the All England Club. This would place him among legends like Bjorn Borg, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic — the only players to win three or more consecutive Wimbledon titles in the Open Era.

Alcaraz will begin his 2025 campaign against Italian player Fabio Fognini on Centre Court this Monday. The young Spaniard comes into the tournament on an 18-match winning streak, which is the best run of his career so far. He recently won the Queen's Club tournament for the second time, showing that his form on grass is strong.

Alcaraz is currently ranked world number two. Though he understands the historic value of winning three consecutive Wimbledon titles, he says he is focusing more on playing good tennis than on making records. "I'm here thinking that I really want to win the title. I want to lift the trophy, not just think about history," he told reporters.

Alcaraz said he is mentally prepared and confident. He is not letting outside expectations or comparisons affect his performance. "Two weeks can be very long in a Grand Slam. I am not thinking about who I could join in history. I just want to be ready and enjoy the matches," he said.

Playing without fear

Alcaraz's recent victories show how much he has grown as a player. He won this year’s French Open by defeating world number one Jannik Sinner in a thrilling final. He came back from two sets down and saved three match points. Before that, he also won big tournaments on clay in Monte Carlo and Rome. His only recent loss came in April against Holger Rune in the Barcelona final.

According to Alcaraz, the secret behind his current success is his fearless mindset. He believes that not overthinking and simply enjoying the game allows him to play his best tennis. "When I play freely and with joy, I show my best level. Right now, I feel more freedom on the court than ever before," he said.

He also mentioned that staying mentally relaxed is very important for him. “If I’m not feeling good off the court, I can’t play well on it. I need to feel comfortable in every part of my life,” he said.

To keep things light before the tournament, Alcaraz spent time in London playing golf with Andy Murray and dining in the city. These small moments off the court help him feel fresh and happy, which he believes is key to performing well.

As he prepares to begin his title defence at Wimbledon, Alcaraz feels excited and focused. He said it's a great feeling to return as the defending champion. "It feels beautiful thinking about what happened last year. I’m excited to start the tournament. Let’s see how it goes," he added.

In summary, Carlos Alcaraz is going into Wimbledon 2025 with confidence, freedom, and a clear mind. If he continues this form, he may soon join the list of tennis greats who have made history at Wimbledon.
