Just three days after a petrol bomb attack in Ram Darbar, another shocking incident took place in Chandigarh’s Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26. In the early hours of Wednesday, five people threw petrol bombs into the courtyard of a house while the family was asleep. Luckily, no one was injured.
The police say an old rivalry seems to be the reason behind the attack. A case has been registered, and one of the attackers has been identified as Golu, a resident of Dadumajra. The police are searching for the other four people involved.
Pankaj, a 21-year-old resident of the house, filed a complaint. He said he was sleeping when he heard noises coming from a nearby park. When he stepped out, he saw Golu and four unknown young men holding sticks and glass bottles filled with a flammable liquid. According to him, they threatened to kill him, lit the bottles, and threw them into the courtyard. The bottles exploded and flames spread quickly. After the fire started, the attackers again threatened to kill his family and then ran away.
Pankaj told the police that he clearly saw Golu and could identify the others if shown to him. Thankfully, the fire did not reach inside the house, and no one got hurt. The police confirmed that the attack was done on purpose to scare or harm the family.
A case has been registered under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including unlawful assembly, rioting with deadly weapons, causing damage through fire, and criminal intimidation.
Old rivalries behind both attacks
This incident is very similar to what happened recently in Ram Darbar, where a group of men attacked the home of a woman named Saroj Devi. In that attack, which took place on April 20 around 1:25 am, the attackers threw flaming bottles at her house. A small fire broke out at the entrance door but was quickly controlled. No one was hurt.
Saroj Devi said in her complaint that she heard loud noises and saw a man named Sunny and six or seven others carrying glass bottles. She and her family watched as the men threatened to kill her son Saurabh. The attackers lit the bottles and threw them at the house and nearby vehicles.
Following this incident, the police arrested Vivek, a 20-year-old from Bapu Dham Colony. Later, three more suspects were arrested — Shubham (18), Dilshad (19), and Sumit (18). The police believe the attack was motivated by personal enmity.

Both these attacks — in Ram Darbar and Bapu Dham — seem to have come from long-standing rivalries. The use of petrol bombs and threats to kill show how dangerous these disputes have become.
The police are continuing to investigate and are working to arrest all those involved. Residents in both areas are now feeling unsafe and worried about more such attacks.
Authorities have asked the public to report any suspicious activities and help in identifying the remaining suspects. The police are also expected to increase patrolling in the affected areas to prevent such violence in the future.
