A 25-year-old man, Uday Singh, died in a road accident on Thursday night in Chandigarh. He was the son of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Vikram Pundir. The accident happened at the Sector 38/40 light point at around 9.45 pm when his motorcycle skidded and crashed into a roadside iron pole.
Tragic Road Mishap in Chandigarh
Uday Singh was riding the motorcycle with his 14-year-old cousin Sahil seated behind him. As the bike approached the light point, it suddenly lost balance. Sahil, the pillion rider, fell off first. Meanwhile, Uday and the motorcycle slid forward and crashed into the pole. The collision caused serious injuries to Uday.
Police said both riders were rushed to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, immediately after the accident. However, Uday Singh succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Sahil received only minor injuries and is recovering.
The police team, led by an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), reached the scene soon after the incident. They cordoned off the area and began an initial investigation. The police are now going through CCTV footage from nearby cameras to understand how the accident occurred. They are also checking technical details such as the bike's condition and possible issues with the road.
According to Station House Officer (SHO) Chiranji Lal from Sector 39 police station, early investigation suggests the bike may have skidded because of sudden braking or a road hazard. The SHO also noted that the motorcycle was being driven at a high speed when it lost balance.
Youth Loses Life, Cousin Injured
Uday Singh was a resident of Attawa village in Sector 42, Chandigarh. The family and local community are in deep shock after learning about his sudden death. Many people, including political workers and residents of Attawa, gathered at the hospital and his home to offer their condolences.
Uday was known to be a polite and cheerful young man. People who knew him said he was always ready to help others and was active in social events and youth programmes. His father, Vikram Pundir, is an active member of AAP in Chandigarh and has been part of various local campaigns and development efforts.
The tragic death of a young and promising individual like Uday Singh has left many saddened. Friends and relatives say it is hard to believe that someone so full of life is no longer among them.
Police have not yet filed a formal case but are continuing their investigation. They are trying to find out whether road conditions, mechanical failure, or any other external factor played a role in the accident. The CCTV footage and technical analysis are expected to give clearer answers in the next few days.
SHO Chiranji Lal stated that the police are also speaking to eyewitnesses to get more information. He added that while Sahil’s injuries were not serious, his statement might help the police understand the events leading up to the crash.
People in the area have raised concerns about safety at the Sector 38/40 light point. Some say that it is a dangerous spot, especially at night, due to low lighting and slippery road surfaces. There have been similar incidents in the past at this intersection, and residents believe that road safety measures need to be improved urgently.
Municipal officials are now expected to look into the road design and lighting around the accident spot. They may consider putting up better signage, speed breakers, or reflectors to reduce the chances of similar accidents in the future.

Meanwhile, Uday’s family is going through a very difficult time. Friends and neighbours are visiting the family to provide support and offer prayers for Uday’s soul. Many political leaders from the AAP and other parties are also expected to visit and pay their respects.
Vikram Pundir, Uday’s father, has not yet spoken to the media. Family members say he is heartbroken and in deep mourning. The loss of a young son is devastating, and the family is asking for privacy and prayers during this painful time.
Uday’s funeral is likely to be held later in the day. His relatives from nearby areas are reaching Chandigarh to attend the final rites. The local administration is expected to assist the family in making arrangements.
In times like these, road safety becomes an important topic once again. People are reminded to drive carefully, wear helmets, follow traffic rules, and stay alert—especially at night or in low-visibility conditions. Many believe that public awareness and stricter safety measures could help save lives on the road.
The Chandigarh Police have appealed to the public to be cautious and report any road hazards. They are also urging people to avoid over-speeding, as it remains one of the biggest causes of road accidents across the country.
As the investigation continues, Uday Singh’s death stands as a grim reminder of how fragile life can be and how quickly things can change because of one unfortunate moment. His family, friends, and the local community will carry the weight of this loss for a long time.
