Himachal CM says rural economy is top priority
Strengthening Himachal’s rural economy is top priority, says Chief Minister
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that making Himachal Pradesh self-reliant and prosperous is the state government’s goal. To achieve this, the government is focusing on strengthening the rural economy, especially agriculture and horticulture.
He said that over 80% of the state’s people depend on farming. That’s why helping the farming community is the top priority for the state.
The Chief Minister added that Himachal Pradesh is now the first state in India to give Minimum Support Price (MSP) on organic products obtained through natural farming. Natural farming uses eco-friendly methods without harmful chemicals.
To support farmers, the government has raised the MSP of many crops. The MSP of maize was first increased to ₹30 per kg and then to ₹40 per kg. The MSP of wheat was raised from ₹40 to ₹60 per kg. The government has also announced ₹90 per kg as MSP for raw turmeric, which is an important spice crop in the region.
Him-Bhog maize flour introduced
CM Sukhu introduced a new product under the brand "Him-Bhog Him-Makki". It is maize flour made from naturally grown maize. This product reflects the state’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and support for farmers.
The maize flour is now available at government ration depots through the Public Distribution System (PDS) across the state. It can also be purchased on the government’s online portal called HIM-ERA.
The chief minister said that this move ensures the flour is easily available in both urban and rural areas. This step helps farmers earn more and gives customers healthy food choices.
More than 4,000 quintals of maize have been bought from 1,590 farmer families. These families grow maize using natural farming methods. This procurement took place in 10 districts, except Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur.
The state government paid ₹1.20 crore directly into the bank accounts of farmers for the maize they sold. The Chief Minister said this is a transparent and fair way to support farmers.

Focus on turmeric farmers
From this financial year, the state will also offer MSP for raw turmeric. This turmeric will be processed and sold under a new brand called "Himachal Haldi". Turmeric is known for its health benefits, and this plan will encourage more farmers to grow it using natural methods.
The Chief Minister said the government has a big goal: to connect 9.61 lakh farmers to natural farming in phases. This will help improve the income of farmers and also protect the environment.
The state government believes that these steps will make Himachal Pradesh stronger and more self-reliant, especially in rural areas where most people live and work in agriculture. Chief Minister Sukhu said the government is fully committed to empowering rural communities, promoting organic farming, and creating new opportunities for farmers.
