BLOODSHED IN BROAD DAYLIGHT: The Brutal Execution of Janki Das

CHANDIGARH — He was likely thinking about the quiet comfort of his home. His everyday routine was waiting for him once his shift finally ended. No one could’ve dreamt that his ordinary day would take such a brutal turn.

On a busy Saturday afternoon, the fragile illusion of security in Chandigarh was shattered.

At approximately 2:30 PM today, Saturday, June 13, 2026, a ruthless, allegedly targeted assassination took place in one of Chandigarh’s posh areas Sector 11. A beloved 45-year-old man was killed, brutally. The public is in a state of fury, and law enforcement is scrambling for answers.

The Execution

It was a normal day at Shri Kumar Medical Hall, a chemist store, in Sector 11.

Inside, 45-year-old Janki Das, a native of Himachal Pradesh currently residing in Dhanas, was at the cash counter. He was a man known for his gentle, nice, and polite personality. Seen in this very shop for about 7 year— a witness states.

Then, the peace was destroyed.

Three men arrived on a single two-wheeler, riding without helmets. In a precisely planned strike, the driver kept the engine on, acting as the getaway. The other two, armed and masked, stormed into the pharmacy.

“They just walked in and opened fire at the counter,” a neighboring shopkeeper recalled.

The assassins unloaded multiple rounds into the victim, reportedly from a semi-automatic weapon. While police reports only confirm 13 rounds, witnesses estimate the total to be closer to a staggering 16 to 18 rounds.

As the gunmen sprinted back to the bike, brave witnesses and neighboring shopkeepers screamed, attempting to give chase. In a desperate bid to ensure their escape, the fleeing suspects fired two more rounds into the air, aiming toward the witnesses to force them back. Within seconds, the trio melted into the crowded Chandigarh traffic, no helmets, their hands stained with blood.

Janki Das was rushed to the PGI, but the injuries were too severe. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

"Police Only There to Collect Fines"

As news of the murder spread, grief quickly turned to boiling rage. The attack took place in a highly populated commercial zone, but what has truly horrified the public is the proximity of the police.

According to a furious eyewitness, a police "Naka" (checkpoint) was stationed merely 50 meters away from the crime scene. Many witnesses claim that cops were physically present nearby when the shots were fired, yet failed to intervene or intercept the fleeing, unhelmeted killers.

  • Citizens are questioning how three men on a single bike, without helmets, could pass a police checkpoint, execute a broad-daylight murder, and escape a highly crowded area entirely undetected.

“The checkpoint seems to be only for fining innocent regular people,” one local shopkeeper stated bitterly. “When real criminals show up, the cops disappear.”

This hit comes just days after another terrifying firing incident in yet another posh area of Sector 9, raising urgent questions about whether a gang war is spilling onto the streets of Chandigarh.

The Investigation

The victim, Janki Das, was universally described by locals as a peaceful man.

“We’ve known him for over six years,” an emotional neighbor shared. “He never even raised his voice. He was always happy, always polite. He had no enemies.”

Because of Das's clean background, authorities strongly believe the attack was a highly specified, contract-style hit.

Things took a rather dramatic turn somewhere between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM when a chilling post appeared on Facebook. The Goldy Dhillon Group claimed full responsibility for the execution through a social media post. The post has now been deleted from their 'official' account.

When pressed on whether this was a case of gangland retaliation or a deadly extortion racket, Mr. Singh, a senior police official, urged patience.

“Investigations are at a preliminary stage, and it is too soon to say anything definitively, but we are exploring all angles,” Mr. Singh stated. “We are deploying all available resources and making every effort to nab the accused.”

As the sun begins setting and the dark approaches, security across Chandigarh has been heavily tightened. Border checkpoints are sealed, and sketches of the suspects are expected to be released soon.

But for the residents of Chandigarh, the damage is done. The usual evening chatter of the Sector 11 market has been replaced by a heavy, suffocating silence. A good man is dead, and the people of Chandigarh are in a constant state of panic, wondering who will be next.
