Most Americans unhappy with Trump’s Iran policy

Trump faces growing criticism over Iran as new poll shows rising disapproval

US President Donald Trump is facing strong criticism from many Americans over the way he has handled the Iran conflict, according to a new poll. The survey shows that a large number of people are unhappy with his decisions, even though his overall approval rating as president has not changed much.

The poll, conducted by AP-NORC, found that 65 per cent of Americans do not approve of Trump’s handling of Iran. This means nearly two out of every three adults in the United States think he has not managed the issue well.

The results show that the war and tensions with Iran have remained a major concern for people in the US. For months, Trump had taken a tough stand against Iran, including threats of stronger military action. But recently, he changed his approach and reopened talks with Iran, leading to a new agreement.

This sudden shift has left many people confused and divided.

Strong political divide

The poll also shows that opinions on Iran are highly divided by political party.

Most Democrats and independent voters said they disapprove of Trump’s actions. However, Republican voters mostly continue to support him. Only 28 per cent of Republicans said they were unhappy with his handling of Iran.

This shows that party loyalty still plays a big role in how people judge Trump’s decisions.

At the same time, Trump’s overall job approval remains at 37 per cent. This number has stayed the same since May, meaning his support has neither improved nor dropped despite the Iran issue.

The poll was carried out between June 11 and June 17, during an important period. It came just after Trump stopped plans for further military action and announced that the US and Iran were working on a deal.

This deal includes several important points. It allows Iran to sell its oil freely again, removes restrictions on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz for two months, and restarts talks on Iran’s nuclear programme.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important oil routes, and any disruption there can affect global oil prices.

Some people believe this agreement is a step toward peace. Others think it is too weak.

For example, David Farrington, a 79-year-old voter from Texas, said he was disappointed. He said the deal focused too much on shipping routes and not enough on Iran’s nuclear weapons.

He felt the agreement looked better on paper than in reality.

Another voter, Donald McBride, said he voted for Trump but is now unhappy because Trump had promised during his campaign to keep America out of foreign wars.

McBride said he wants the war to end because he believes continuing it will not achieve the goal of removing Iran’s leadership.

Americans want the conflict to end

The poll shows that many Americans feel the military action has gone too far.

About 53 per cent said US action against Iran has crossed the limit. This number is slightly lower than in March, when 59 per cent said the same thing, but it still shows that most people are worried.

Many Americans seem tired of the conflict and want peace.

However, not everyone feels that way.

Around 40 per cent of Republicans said the action taken by the US was “about right.” Another 37 per cent said it had not gone far enough.

Some believe strong military action is necessary to protect America.

Joan Jones, a 64-year-old voter from Florida, said she supports Trump’s decisions because she feels Iran remains a threat.

She said the attacks were needed to stop future nuclear dangers.

The poll also looked at Trump’s handling of Israel.

Only 34 per cent of Americans said they approve of his approach toward Israel. This comes at a time when tensions are rising between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump has criticised recent Israeli military actions in Lebanon, saying they could harm US-Iran peace talks.

Some of Trump’s own supporters think his strategy with Israel is not working.

James Huffman, a Republican from Ohio, said Netanyahu will act in his own way and not always follow Trump’s wishes.

The economy was another issue in the poll.

Only about one-third of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of the economy. This is also unchanged from last month.

This is worrying for Trump because the economy has always been one of his strongest campaign promises.

Some Republicans said prices are still too high and daily life has become expensive.

Patricia Bailey, a Trump voter from West Virginia, said even ordering pizza now feels too costly.

She said Trump has disappointed her because he seems more focused on war than improving the economy.

Still, some supporters remain hopeful. Joan Jones said crowded beaches, busy roads, and long lines at stores show that the economy is doing well.

The poll makes one thing clear: while Trump’s overall support remains steady, many Americans are unhappy with his decisions on Iran.

As the US moves forward with the new Iran agreement, Trump will continue facing questions about whether his strategy has truly brought peace — or only delayed a bigger conflict.
