CM Dhami urges people to save energy and support local products

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has appealed to people to save energy, reduce unnecessary spending and support local products to help strengthen the country’s economy. He made the appeal while supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent message asking citizens to adopt responsible consumption habits and contribute towards building a self-reliant India.

According to an official statement, the chief minister said every citizen has a responsibility to think about the country’s interests while using resources like electricity, fuel and other essential items. He said small changes in daily life can collectively make a big difference for the nation’s economy and future.

Dhami said Prime Minister Modi’s appeal is not only about saving money but also about encouraging people to work together for a stronger and more independent India. He added that the idea of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” or self-reliant India can become successful only when people actively participate and make responsible choices in their everyday lives.

The chief minister said people should avoid wasting natural resources and should try to reduce dependence on imported goods. According to him, citizens can help the country become economically stronger through simple lifestyle changes and disciplined consumption.

He also said Uttarakhand, known as Devbhoomi, has always played an important role in serving national interests. He expressed confidence that the people of the state would support the prime minister’s appeal and turn it into a public movement through awareness and cooperation.

The statement released by the government mentioned several steps that people can voluntarily follow to support the country’s economy and reduce unnecessary use of resources.

Dhami asked citizens to avoid unnecessary foreign travel whenever possible and instead support tourism and businesses within India. He also appealed to people to buy local and indigenous products instead of imported items so that Indian industries and small businesses can grow stronger.

The chief minister further encouraged people to use public transport more often to reduce the consumption of petrol and diesel. He said using buses, shared transport and other public transport systems can help save fuel and reduce pollution at the same time.

He also appealed to citizens to save electricity by switching off lights and appliances when not needed and by using energy carefully at homes, offices and public places. According to him, energy conservation is important not only for economic reasons but also for protecting natural resources for future generations.

One of the most discussed suggestions made by the chief minister was his appeal to people to avoid purchasing gold jewellery for one year. He said such steps can help reduce unnecessary imports and support the country’s economic stability.

Dhami also encouraged farmers to increase the use of natural manure and reduce dependence on chemical fertilisers. He said natural farming methods are better for both the environment and long-term agricultural sustainability.

In addition, he appealed to people to use edible oil carefully and avoid wastage. According to him, reducing unnecessary consumption can lower import dependence and strengthen the economy.

Small changes can help the country

The chief minister said even small efforts by ordinary citizens can create a large impact when millions of people participate together. He explained that simple commitments in daily life can help save resources, reduce imports and strengthen the country’s financial position.

Dhami stressed that citizens should understand the connection between individual behaviour and national progress. He said when people become more careful about how they use electricity, fuel and other resources, the country benefits economically as well as environmentally.

According to the statement, the chief minister linked energy conservation directly with the larger national goal of self-reliance. He said India is moving steadily towards becoming more self-dependent under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and greater public participation will make this mission stronger.

He also highlighted the importance of supporting local businesses and products. The “Vocal for Local” campaign, promoted by the central government in recent years, encourages people to prefer Indian-made goods and support domestic industries.

Dhami said this idea can only succeed when citizens themselves decide to support local products in their daily purchases. He added that stronger local industries can create jobs, boost economic growth and reduce the country’s dependence on foreign goods.

Government focuses on public participation

The chief minister repeatedly stressed that public participation is necessary for national development. He said governments alone cannot achieve large economic and environmental goals unless people actively support them through responsible actions.

Political observers believe such appeals are also linked to rising global economic challenges, energy concerns and increasing pressure on natural resources. Many countries are encouraging people to save energy and reduce unnecessary consumption because of international economic uncertainty and fuel-related issues.

The statement also reflected the government’s focus on promoting self-reliance at both economic and social levels. Officials believe public awareness campaigns can encourage people to think more carefully about spending habits and resource use.

Supporters of the government say these measures can help reduce pressure on imports and improve the country’s long-term economic strength. Critics, however, argue that awareness campaigns should also be supported with stronger policy measures and economic reforms.

Still, the chief minister expressed hope that people in Uttarakhand would actively support the campaign and help spread awareness among others. He said the state has always shown commitment towards national causes and public welfare.

Dhami concluded by saying that India’s future depends not only on government policies but also on the contribution of ordinary citizens. According to him, when millions of people make responsible choices together, the country can move faster towards becoming stronger, more self-reliant and economically secure.
