UP government approves sops for semiconductor industry

Yogi Cabinet okays 13 major proposals, includes semiconductor incentives to boost investment

The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved 13 important proposals to attract large-scale investment and improve facilities in the state. The decisions were made during a Cabinet meeting aimed at creating more jobs, improving infrastructure, and supporting industries like semiconductor manufacturing. Out of 14 proposals presented, 13 were approved.

One of the main goals of these decisions is to make Uttar Pradesh a hub for high-tech industries, especially semiconductors. The state government has launched the Semiconductor Policy 2024, which offers special incentives to attract big companies. These incentives are designed for projects with investments of Rs 3,000 crore or more. The government wants to position the state as a major center for semiconductor manufacturing, similar to countries like the US, Japan, Taiwan, and European nations, where the industry is growing rapidly.

Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna explained that the state will provide case-by-case incentives for large investors. These benefits include interest subsidies, reimbursement of employee costs, and exemption from net SGST (Goods and Services Tax) for 10 years. Power tariffs for semiconductor units will also get a subsidy of up to Rs 2 per unit for 10 years.

Additionally, 100 percent reimbursement of EPF (Employees’ Provident Fund) contributions will be provided for professionals based in Uttar Pradesh, capped at Rs 2,000 per month. Concessions in water charges will also be given. The government hopes these steps will attract major global players to invest in Uttar Pradesh and help grow the semiconductor industry in the state.

New projects to improve infrastructure and healthcare

Apart from incentives for the semiconductor industry, the Cabinet approved several projects to improve infrastructure and healthcare in the state. A new modern bus station will be built in Pilibhit near the district headquarters on Tanakpur Road. The facility will be constructed on 1.317 hectares (about 7,000 square meters) of Revenue Department land. The land will be leased to the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation for 30 years, which can be extended up to 90 years. The bus station will benefit passengers traveling to Uttarakhand and Nepal. It is expected to be completed in two years.

In healthcare, the Cabinet approved the construction of a 500-bed multi super speciality hospital at the Shyama Prasad Gupta SSPG Divisional District Hospital campus in Varanasi. To build the hospital, 11 old and unusable buildings will be demolished. The project will cost Rs 315.48 crore, with 60 percent funded by the Centre (around Rs 189 crore) and 40 percent by the state government (around Rs 126 crore). The hospital will improve advanced healthcare facilities for patients in the Purvanchal region and is expected to be completed in four years.

The Cabinet also approved changes in recruitment for Regional Sports Officers in the Sports Department. A total of 18 posts have been sanctioned. Now, two-thirds of the posts (12) will be filled through promotions, while one-third (6) will be reserved for international medal-winning players from the Olympics, Asian Games, or Commonwealth Games. Earlier, the posts were split equally between promotion and international athletes. This new system aims to provide opportunities for both experienced officers and outstanding sportspersons.

Another decision includes the demolition of old and dilapidated residential buildings of the 37th Battalion PAC in Kanpur. In their place, 108 new Type-1 Special residential units will be constructed, improving housing facilities for PAC personnel.

The Cabinet also gave approval to provide 50 acres of land free of cost for setting up an off-campus of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Gandhinagar, in Varanasi. The land is located in Raja Talab tehsil and will be given to the university on a 99-year lease from the Animal Husbandry Department. The new campus will strengthen education in forensic science, cybercrime studies, and criminal investigation in Uttar Pradesh.

Overall, the Cabinet’s approvals aim to make Uttar Pradesh a better place for investment, infrastructure, healthcare, and education. By attracting global semiconductor companies and supporting large projects, the government expects to generate more jobs and improve the quality of life for people in the state.

The new initiatives show a focus on economic growth, social development, and public welfare. From modern transport facilities and hospitals to improved sports and education opportunities, the Yogi government is taking steps to boost Uttar Pradesh’s development across multiple sectors.
