Ganieve Majithia alleges police helped AAP win Majitha election
Punjab Police won the election for AAP in Majitha, says SAD MLA Ganieve Majithia
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA from Majitha, Ganieve Kaur Majithia, has alleged that the Punjab Police helped the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) win the recent zila parishad and block samiti elections in her constituency. She said the elections were not free or fair and claimed that state machinery was misused to influence the results.
Speaking on Thursday, Majithia said that heavy police pressure, administrative changes, and large-scale irregularities led to a record low voter turnout and forced the Congress party to boycott the elections. Despite this, she said, the SAD continued to contest the polls and received strong support from voters.
Allegations of police interference
Ganieve Majithia claimed that the Punjab Police played a major role in ensuring AAP’s victory in the Majitha area. She alleged that senior officials, including the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Station House Officers (SHOs), the deputy commissioner, and sub-divisional magistrates, were changed shortly before the elections.
According to her, handpicked officers were posted to prevent opposition candidates from filing nominations. As a result, she said, AAP candidates were declared elected unopposed in 22 out of 33 block samiti seats.
She further alleged that on the polling day, December 14, there was widespread rigging. She claimed that AAP supporters tampered with the voting process by turning cameras away from ballot boxes and stuffing them with ballot papers in favour of AAP candidates.
Majithia also alleged serious irregularities during the counting process. She said that in the Tarsika zila parishad zone, 12 to 13 ballot boxes were sent to a different counting centre without informing the candidates. She added that even women were not spared during the alleged violence, claiming that a woman lawyer was slapped.
“The aim was simple,” she said. “To steal the elections by any means.”
Low turnout and SAD’s response
Majithia said the elections saw the lowest voter turnout in Majitha since 1992, with only about 40% of voters casting their ballots. She blamed this on what she described as state repression and fear created by the police and administration.
She thanked SAD voters and workers for standing by the party despite the pressure. She said that even under these conditions, the SAD managed to win one out of four zila parishad seats and five out of 12 block samiti seats in the Majitha constituency.
However, she alleged that the party’s success was deliberately reduced. Majithia claimed that certificates for two seats, Bhoma and Pakharpura, which were won by SAD candidates, were instead given to AAP candidates. She said this reduced SAD’s official tally to three seats. She also alleged that SAD was shown to have lost another seat by a margin of just six votes.

The SAD MLA said the people of Majitha had once again stood with the Majithia family and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia, who is currently in jail. She described the charges against him as false and politically motivated.
Majithia said the Congress party had boycotted the elections due to the situation on the ground, but the SAD chose to stay in the contest. She claimed that police threatened SAD supporters with false cases to stop them from voting.
“I salute the candidates and supporters who faced police pressure and still came out in large numbers to vote for the SAD,” she said.
She further claimed that the actions taken by the AAP government showed that it feared defeat in a fair election. According to her, if the polls had been conducted honestly, AAP would have suffered a major loss.
Majithia said that the Majithia family would continue to raise the issues of the people strongly. She added that Punjabis have never accepted injustice and will respond in a proper manner.
She concluded by saying that the people of Punjab would give a fitting reply to the AAP in the 2027 assembly elections, provided they are held in a free and fair manner.
The Aam Aadmi Party and the Punjab Police have not yet responded to the allegations made by the SAD MLA.
