Ghaziabad tragedy: Three minor sisters die after alleged online game influence

A tragic incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad has left an entire neighbourhood in shock after three minor sisters died after falling from the ninth floor of their apartment building. The incident happened in the early hours of February 4 at Bharat City Society in the Tila Mod area. Police are investigating whether the deaths are linked to an online task-based game and other personal and family factors.

The girls have been identified as Nishika, aged 16, Prachi, aged 14, and Pakhi, aged 12. They were daughters of Chetan Kumar and lived with their family in Flat 907 of B1 Tower. Their bodies were found on the ground below the building around 2:15 am, and doctors later declared them dead on arrival at a nearby hospital.

What police know so far

According to the police, the incident took place while other family members were asleep. Early investigation suggests that the three sisters were together shortly before the fall. No formal suicide note has been officially confirmed in the initial police report, but investigators are examining all material found inside the flat, including mobile phones, notebooks, and personal items.

Assistant Police Commissioner Atul Kumar Singh said police received information through the emergency response system and reached the spot immediately. The area was secured, and the flat was sealed for forensic examination. Mobile phones used by the girls have been seized to check their online activity and any possible external influence.

Police suspect the girls may have been influenced by an online task-based game that they had been playing for long hours. Family members reportedly told officers that the sisters were deeply attached to their mobile phones and spent most of their time online. There had been frequent arguments at home over mobile phone use, and the family had recently restricted their access.

Senior officers said the investigation is still at an early stage. They are trying to find out whether the girls were under pressure from online interactions, whether they faced bullying or manipulation, or whether family stress played a role. Officials have stressed that no final conclusion will be drawn until all digital and forensic evidence is examined.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Nimish Patil said the girls appeared to be strongly influenced by Korean culture, based on early findings. He added that there is no clear information yet about any specific game or tasks. The police are also looking into why the girls had not been attending school for the past two years.

Family background and unanswered questions

The family structure has added another layer of complexity to the investigation. Chetan Kumar had married twice, and both wives lived together in the same household along with their children. The three sisters who died were biological siblings, but they were born to different mothers. Two were from the second wife, while one was from the first.

Sources said the family lived together without open conflict, but the situation is being closely examined to understand the emotional environment at home. Police are questioning family members and neighbours to build a clearer picture of the girls’ daily lives and mental state.

It has also come to light that the three girls had not attended school for nearly two years. Reports suggest they were weak in studies and stayed at home as a result. This may have led to isolation and increased screen time, though police have said this is only one of several aspects being looked into.

Some residents of the society claimed they noticed unusual movement on the balcony shortly before the incident. One eyewitness said it appeared that one girl was being pulled back while another moved forward, but events unfolded very quickly. Police have recorded statements from multiple residents to verify these claims.

The incident has raised serious concerns about children’s mental health, excessive screen time, and the possible dangers of unmonitored online content. Authorities have urged parents to remain alert to changes in their children’s behaviour and to maintain open communication about online activities.

As the investigation continues, police say they will act strictly based on evidence. For now, the deaths of the three sisters have left many unanswered questions and a deep sense of grief in the community.
