PM Modi begins Lok Sabha Campaign with Temple visit in Telangana

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Telangana on Tuesday night and stayed at the Raj Bhavan. On Wednesday, he visited the Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Devasthanam in Vemulawada, Karimnagar district, to offer prayers before commencing his election campaign in the state.

Campaign schedule

After his temple visit, PM Modi is scheduled to hold rallies in Karimnagar and Warangal areas of Telangana. Following his campaign in Telangana, he will proceed to the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh for a rally in Rajampet and a roadshow in Vijayawada.

During his visit to Hyderabad, PM Modi met with the family of former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. The family expressed gratitude for Rao being posthumously conferred the Bharat Ratna. Discussions during the meeting ranged from cultural topics to India's development progress.

Ahead of PM Modi's visit, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh posed questions regarding various development projects in Telangana, including the status of the rail coach factory at Kazipet and the Bayyaram Steel Plant. Additionally, Ramesh questioned the implementation of a Madiga sub-quota promise in the absence of a Census or Caste Census.

Upcoming elections

Telangana will witness voting for all 17 seats in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 on May 13, during the fourth phase. In the previous 2019 general election, TRS won nine seats, BJP secured four, Congress obtained three, and AIMIM claimed one seat.

As the Lok Sabha polls progress, voting for the first three phases has concluded, with the next round scheduled for May 7. The elections are being conducted in seven phases until June 1, with vote counting set for June 4.
