The UGC NET December 2025 examination was conducted in computer-based mode from December 31, 2025, to January 7, 2026, across multiple centres in India. The exam was held for 85 subjects and aimed to determine eligibility for Assistant Professor posts, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), and PhD admissions under UGC norms.

Cut-off marks, answer key and key points
Along with the results, the NTA has released the final answer key for the UGC NET December 2025 examination. The results have been prepared based on this final answer key, after reviewing all objections raised during the provisional answer key window.
The provisional answer key was released on January 14, 2026, and candidates were allowed to raise objections until January 17, 2026, by paying a processing fee of Rs 200 per question. After examining all challenges, the final answer key was published, and no further objections are allowed.
Candidates must understand the difference between minimum qualifying marks and the final cut-off. For the General and EWS categories, the minimum qualifying marks are 40 per cent, while for SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), PwD, and third gender categories, the minimum qualifying marks are 35 per cent. However, scoring these minimum marks does not guarantee qualification.
Final qualification depends on subject-wise cut-offs and the top 6 per cent rule, under which only the top-performing candidates in each subject and category are declared qualified. Cut-offs vary every cycle depending on factors such as exam difficulty, number of candidates, and overall performance.
The UGC NET follows a percentile-based system instead of raw marks to ensure fairness across multiple shifts. A percentile score shows the percentage of candidates who scored equal to or less than a particular candidate in that subject.
For questions that were found incorrect and dropped, the NTA has awarded full marks to all candidates who attempted those questions. Since there is no negative marking in the UGC NET exam, this rule has been applied uniformly.
The NTA has also clarified that the NET qualification for Assistant Professor is valid for a lifetime, while the Junior Research Fellowship has a limited validity period, as prescribed by UGC rules.
Candidates are strongly advised to download and safely store their scorecards. Both digital and printed copies may be required during faculty recruitment, fellowship verification, or PhD admission processes.
With the declaration of the UGC NET December 2025 results, the examination cycle has formally concluded. Candidates who have qualified can now prepare for the next stages of their academic or research careers, while others may begin planning for upcoming UGC NET attempts.
