Mother Dairy hikes milk prices by ₹2 per litre
Mother Dairy increases milk prices by up to ₹2 per litre from April 30
Mother Dairy has increased the prices of its milk by up to ₹2 per litre starting April 30, 2025. This change comes just one month after the company introduced a new milk product called 'Promilk', which is high in protein.
According to a report from news agency PTI, the price hike was necessary because the cost of buying milk from farmers has gone up. A Mother Dairy official explained that in recent months, the company has had to pay ₹4–5 more per litre to procure milk. This rise in cost is mainly because of the early arrival of summer and the intense heatwave conditions.
Mother Dairy is one of India’s leading milk suppliers. It is a part of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). The company gets its milk from about 10 lakh (1 million) farmers in 12 states and sells its products through over 4 lakh (400,000) retail outlets across the country.
The price increase will affect all major milk variants sold by the company. Here are the revised prices:
Milk Type | Old Price (half litre) | New Price (half litre) |
---|---|---|
Full cream | ₹34 | ₹35 |
Toned | ₹28 | ₹29 |
Double toned | ₹25 | ₹26 |
Cow milk | ₹29 | ₹30 |
Promilk | ₹35 | ₹36 |
The company said the price hike is only a small part of the extra cost they have to bear. “We are trying to balance the needs of our farmers and our consumers,” said the official. They want to make sure that farmers get a fair price for their milk, and that customers continue to receive quality products at reasonable rates.
Promilk to fight protein deficiency
The price hike announcement comes after the recent launch of ‘Promilk’ by Mother Dairy. This new milk product is aimed at helping people in India get more protein in their diet. Studies show that 70–80% of Indians do not meet their daily protein needs. On top of that, 93% are unaware of how much protein they actually need.
Promilk has 4% fat, 11.5% solids-not-fat (SNF), and is enriched with vitamins A and D. It provides 40 grams of protein per litre—around 30% more than regular milk. Despite the added nutrition, the taste remains close to what customers are used to.
At its launch, Managing Director Manish Bandlish said the product was created with health in mind. “Protein is an important part of a balanced diet,” he said. He added that Mother Dairy wants to help people improve their nutrition in a simple and tasty way.
Promilk was initially priced at ₹70 per litre. It is currently being sold in the Delhi-NCR region, but the company is looking at expanding its reach depending on customer feedback. They began with a daily supply of 50,000 litres.
In the next three months, Mother Dairy also plans to launch more products under its 'Pro' line. These will include high-protein curd and paneer. The aim is to help more people get better nutrition from their everyday food items.
Delhi-NCR sales and daily supply
Mother Dairy is one of the biggest milk suppliers in the Delhi-NCR region. It sells about 35 lakh litres of milk every day. The milk is made available through Mother Dairy booths, local shops, and online platforms.
The company says that the price hike will help them continue providing good quality milk regularly. It will also ensure that farmers who supply the milk are fairly paid for their efforts, especially during the tough summer months.
Mother Dairy officials said they are committed to keeping the milk supply steady and making sure that their products remain affordable while supporting the rural economy.
This latest price increase and the launch of Promilk reflect the company’s efforts to meet both growing costs and growing health concerns among Indian consumers.
