Massive inspection drive against coaching institutes launched on CM Yogi’s directions

Lucknow, June 23 Following the tragic incident in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued strict directions for a statewide inspection drive of coaching institutes. Joint teams comprising officials from the police, district administration, fire department, development authorities, and electrical safety departments were formed to inspect coaching centers for compliance with safety standards and regulatory norms. The campaign was carried out across major cities including Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Meerut, and Agra, as well as in other districts. More than 100 coaching institutes faced action after irregularities were detected. The inspection drive is continuing.
Following the tragic incident in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had issued strict instructions for inspections across all districts. In some districts, inspection drives began as early as Monday evening. The campaign intensified further on Tuesday.
Action was also taken against unregistered coaching institutes. Teams conducted detailed inspections of fire safety equipment, emergency exits, building structures, and other safety measures. The inspections continued late into the night.
Prayagraj Chief Fire Officer Chandra Mohan Sharma said, "Out of 97 registered coaching institutes in the city, only 15 had obtained a Fire NOC. The Fire Department has constituted ten teams that will continue inspections. As part of the drive, the Prayagraj Development Authority sealed the Khan Global Studies coaching institute located in Civil Lines."
Parking Areas Converted into Classrooms in Kanpur; Fire NOC Also Found Invalid
The enforcement wing of the Kanpur Development Authority and fire department officials had begun inspections of coaching institutes from Monday evening. By Tuesday evening, more than 30 institutes in Kakadeo, the city's largest educational hub, had been sealed. All were found violating safety norms.
The most serious violations were found in building basements, which had been approved only for parking purposes but were illegally converted into classrooms accommodating hundreds of students. Nearly a dozen institutes were also sealed in Mirzapur.
Fire safety deficiencies found in Varanasi; inspections underway in Jaunpur and Chandauli
A joint team of the Varanasi Development Authority and Fire Department began inspections of coaching institutes and libraries in the city on Monday. Several institutions have been sealed during the drive. Multiple institutes were found violating fire safety norms.
Inspections are also being conducted in Jaunpur and Chandauli. VDA Vice Chairman Purn Bora said, "Several coaching centers were operating without approved building maps and in violation of prescribed building standards, leading to sealing action against them."
