Jyothi Yarraji clinches gold with record rewrite in Asian Indoor Athletics Championships

Jyothi Yarraji sets record straight, wins 60m Hurdles gold at Asian Indoor Athletics Championships

Rising Indian sprinter Jyothi Yarraji broke her own national record in the women's 60m hurdles event at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, securing a gold medal with a time of 8.12 seconds. This achievement surpasses her previous record of 8.13 seconds, set at the same event last year, where she finished as the runner-up.

Jyothi, known for her prowess in hurdling, showcased her talent by topping her heat with a timing of 8.22 seconds. She then went on to outperform her competitors in the final, finishing ahead of Japan's Asuka Tereda, who clocked 8.21 seconds. Lui Lai Yiu of Hong Kong secured the third spot on the podium with a timing of 8.26 seconds.

Impressive track record

The 24-year-old athlete has consistently excelled in hurdles, evident from her silver medal at the 2022 Asian Games in the 100m hurdles category. Despite facing initial disqualification, Jyothi's resilience led her to secure the silver medal. Moreover, she is the reigning Asian Outdoor champion in the 100m hurdles, claiming the title in Bangkok last year.
