IndiGo announces ₹10,000 vouchers for badly impacted passengers
IndiGo to compensate majorly hit flyers with ₹10,000 travel vouchers after mass cancellations
IndiGo Airlines has announced that passengers who were severely affected by flight disruptions between December 3 and 5, 2025, will receive travel vouchers worth Rs 10,000. The airline faced a crew shortage during these days, which led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights and left thousands of passengers stranded at airports across India.
IndiGo clarified that it has already processed refunds for all cancelled flights. However, the airline did not specify what exactly counts as being "severely affected" or how it will identify the passengers eligible for the Rs 10,000 vouchers. The vouchers can be used for any IndiGo flight within the next 12 months, giving passengers flexibility for future travel.
In a statement, IndiGo said, “IndiGo regrettably acknowledges that some of our customers travelling on 3, 4, and 5 December 2025 were stranded for many hours at certain airports and some of them were severely impacted due to congestion. We will offer travel vouchers worth INR 10,000 to such severely impacted customers.”
The airline also mentioned that this compensation is in addition to the Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 offered under government rules for passengers whose flights were cancelled within 24 hours of departure. IndiGo emphasized its commitment to improving services, stating, “At IndiGo, we are committed to restoring the experience you expect from us: safe, smooth, and reliable. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve you again.”
Passengers who had been stranded expressed frustration on social media, as the cancellation chaos affected both domestic and international travel plans. Many flights were grounded for hours, causing inconvenience and missed connections. The airline’s move to provide vouchers is part of its effort to regain customer trust after the disruption.
Flight chaos aftermath and government action
Following the crisis, IndiGo said that all services have been restored for four days, and there have been no same-day cancellations in the past three days, except due to weather, technical issues, or other uncontrollable factors. The airline has assured passengers that it is taking measures to prevent such disruptions in the future.
The Indian government responded to the chaos by slashing IndiGo's winter schedule by 10 percent. This decision came after the airline’s poor planning to implement new flight safety norms, which contributed to the crew shortage and flight cancellations. The reduction in schedule is intended to help the airline operate more smoothly and avoid further passenger inconvenience.

Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu stated that the government will take strict action and emphasized that safety in civil aviation is non-negotiable. He added that the measures taken against IndiGo will serve as an example for other airlines to prevent similar disruptions in the future.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also stepped in to ensure smooth operations. It has formed an oversight team to monitor flight cancellations, refunds, and on-time performance across airports. Additionally, inspections are being conducted at 11 major airports to confirm that airlines are following safety protocols and maintaining adequate crew levels.
IndiGo’s recent measures, including the Rs 10,000 travel vouchers, reflect its efforts to compensate affected passengers and restore confidence in its services. The airline’s statement highlights its commitment to customer care and adherence to government regulations. Experts note that such initiatives are essential to maintain passenger loyalty, especially after large-scale disruptions.
In conclusion, while the flight cancellations caused significant inconvenience, IndiGo is trying to address passenger concerns through vouchers and refunds. The government is ensuring that airlines comply with safety norms and maintain adequate crew to prevent future disruptions. Passengers now have access to compensation and improved services as IndiGo works to stabilize operations and regain public trust.
