India seeks welfare of Venezuelan people, says Jaishankar
Jaishankar voices concern over recent developments in Venezuela, stresses India’s support for citizens’ well-being
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday said India is worried about the current situation in Venezuela after recent events there. He said India’s main concern is the safety and well-being of the Venezuelan people and urged all sides to work towards a peaceful solution through dialogue. Jaishankar spoke about this during a meeting with Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel. During the meeting, they also discussed relations between India and Luxembourg. India has had long-standing diplomatic ties with Venezuela and wants its people to come out of the crisis safely.
Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also said that the situation in Venezuela is a matter of deep concern and that India is closely watching the developments. The MEA called on all parties to resolve issues peacefully through dialogue and ensure stability in the region. The Indian Embassy in Caracas is in touch with the Indian community and will provide all possible assistance if needed.
The situation in Venezuela has gained global attention after the United States carried out military action that led to the capture of former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife. India’s response has focused on the humanitarian side of the crisis, emphasizing the importance of peace, stability, and respect for the Venezuelan people. Jaishankar highlighted that India’s concern is not political but aimed at protecting the lives and well-being of ordinary citizens.
India’s advisory and diplomatic steps
Due to the situation, the MEA issued a travel advisory for Indian citizens in Venezuela. Indian nationals are strongly advised to avoid all non-essential travel to the country. Those already in Venezuela are urged to stay cautious, limit their movements, and remain in contact with the Indian Embassy in Caracas through email or emergency phone numbers. The advisory is intended to protect Indian citizens until the situation becomes more stable.

India’s approach to the crisis has been cautious but clear. The government has emphasized dialogue and humanitarian concerns rather than taking sides in the political dispute. Former Indian diplomats have described India’s response as measured, noting that many countries, especially in Europe, have also reacted cautiously, while China and Russia have strongly criticized the US action. India’s balanced approach aims to maintain good relations with Venezuela, the United States, and other international partners while prioritizing the safety of its citizens.
The situation in Venezuela continues to evolve, and the Indian government is closely monitoring developments. Officials at the MEA are staying in touch with international partners and the Indian community in Caracas. Indian authorities are also ready to provide assistance to citizens who may face difficulties due to the ongoing political and social instability.
India’s public statements and the advisory underline the importance the country places on peace and the protection of human life. The MEA has highlighted that all parties in Venezuela should work together to resolve their differences through dialogue and avoid actions that may escalate the crisis. India’s emphasis is on stability, safety, and constructive diplomatic engagement.
In conclusion, India has expressed strong concern over the recent events in Venezuela. The government has urged dialogue, called for the protection of people’s safety, and issued a travel advisory for Indian citizens in the country. At the same time, India continues to maintain its diplomatic relations with Venezuela while closely watching the situation. The country’s approach reflects a focus on humanitarian values, peace, and responsible engagement in global affairs.
