Himachal asks Modi to stop apple imports from Turkey

Himachal CM urges PM Modi to ban apple imports from Turkey

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced that he will ask the Union government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ban apple imports from Turkey. He said this move is needed to protect the local apple farmers in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, whose income is being affected by cheaper imported apples.

The apple industry in Himachal Pradesh is very important and worth around ₹4,500 crore. Farmers in the region have worked hard for years to grow quality apples, but imported apples from Turkey and America have caused prices to drop, making it difficult for local growers to earn good money.

Sukhu said he will raise this issue during the meeting with the Prime Minister and other chief ministers on May 24 in Delhi. He wants the government to take strict steps to protect farmers and help the apple industry grow.

Shimla decongestion and tourism boost

Apart from the apple issue, Sukhu also talked about plans to reduce congestion in Shimla, the capital city of Himachal Pradesh. He said offices of regulatory authorities such as those related to GST and real estate will be shifted out of Shimla. This will help reduce traffic and crowding in the city, making it more comfortable for residents and tourists.

However, government departments will continue to function from Shimla. Women employees will be given the option to stay in the city, and new employees will be appointed to strengthen government services.

Sukhu also welcomed tourists to Himachal Pradesh. He said the state is peaceful and safe for visitors and encouraged people to come and enjoy the natural beauty of the region.

He mentioned that some government buildings constructed during the previous BJP government, which are currently empty, will be used in places like Dharamshala and Mandi to support these changes.
