Ghaziabad Crime Branch inspector suspended for 2019 kidnapping oversight

UP suspends Ghaziabad Crime Branch inspector over negligence in 2019 kidnapping case

In a serious development, the Ghaziabad Police Commissioner J Ravinder Goud has suspended Inspector Abdul Rahman Siddiqui, who was heading the Crime Branch. He has been accused of gross negligence in a 2019 kidnapping case that took place during his tenure as Station House Officer (SHO) in Meerut. The case involved the alleged abduction of a young woman from the Civil Lines area. Despite the victim’s family filing a written complaint and naming the accused, no action was taken at that time.

The family had mentioned that the abductor was Badar Akhtar Siddiqui, a known member of the criminal Changur Baba gang. However, Inspector Siddiqui reportedly refused to file an FIR and allegedly scolded the family, even driving them out of the police station. This behavior caused further trauma to the already distressed family. The matter was ignored, and no proper investigation was carried out for several years.

Now, a joint investigation by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Meerut Police has exposed this negligence. During the interrogation of Changur Baba, who is currently in ATS custody, important information about the 2019 case came to light. The ATS then wrote to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Meerut to review the old case files and records.

Upon review, it was found that Inspector Siddiqui failed to perform his duty responsibly and had neglected a serious criminal complaint. As a result, the police commissioner ordered his immediate suspension from the force. This move is seen as a step toward accountability within the police system, especially in cases involving serious crimes like kidnapping.

Ghaziabad STF busts fake embassy and arrests one

In a separate case, the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force (STF) uncovered a fake embassy operating in Ghaziabad. They arrested Harsh Vardhan Jain, a resident of Kavi Nagar, who claimed to be a diplomat of a fictitious nation called "West Arctica." According to officials, Jain was using this fake identity to cheat people by promising them foreign job placements and business deals.

The STF's Noida unit found that Jain had set up an office that appeared to be an official embassy. He used fake documents and symbols to mislead individuals and businesses. Initial investigations show that several people may have been tricked into paying him money with hopes of getting jobs abroad. The STF is now verifying how many people were affected and whether any other people were involved in this scam.

Both incidents have shocked residents of Ghaziabad. While the police are now taking action against the suspended officer and the fraudster, these developments highlight the need for greater transparency and accountability in law enforcement.
