CM Saini urges quick completion of short-term projects before monsoon

CM Saini directs departments to finish all short-term projects before monsoon

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has asked all government departments to finish short-term development works before the arrival of the monsoon. On Monday, during a review meeting in Chandigarh, he told officials that no delay or negligence would be tolerated when it comes to essential work.

The Chief Minister said these tasks must be done quickly and with top priority. He stressed the need to act before the rainy season begins, to avoid waterlogging, floods, or damage to infrastructure. Saini was speaking during a meeting with key departments, including Irrigation and Water Resources, Public Health Engineering, and Urban Local Bodies.

He said that all the drains across Haryana must be cleaned immediately. This will help in smooth water flow during the rains and avoid blockages or flooding. He also instructed that water hyacinth — a plant that can clog drains and channels — must be removed from all water bodies without delay.

Saini said that dams across the state must be inspected thoroughly. If any damages or weaknesses are found, those must be fixed as soon as possible. He said advance preparation is very important, and there should be no room for error during the monsoon season.

The Chief Minister also directed the concerned departments to share full details of ongoing and upcoming work with the local elected representatives and deputy commissioners. This will ensure transparency and faster coordination at the ground level.

Focus on Water and Safety

He gave special instructions to prepare a complete list of old ‘khaals’ (traditional water channels), especially those that are over 20 years old. These channels must be cleaned and repaired, and a proper action plan should be made for this purpose. He emphasised that older water systems cannot be ignored and must be revived and maintained.

Regarding river pollution, the Chief Minister said that no untreated or dirty water should be allowed to enter the Yamuna River. In areas where industrial waste is being released into the river, Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) must be installed as soon as possible. These plants help clean industrial waste before it reaches natural water bodies.

Saini added that the departments must prepare full proposals for setting up CETPs in all cities where needed. He also suggested a sustainable method to use treated water. This water, after cleaning, can be used for irrigation, which will reduce waste and help farmers.

He concluded by saying that Haryana is committed to better water management, timely completion of projects, and protecting the environment. All departments must work together on a war-footing to make sure the state is ready for the monsoon.
