All schools in Ranchi to remain shut tomorrow due to heavy rain alert

Heavy rain alert: all schools in Ranchi to remain closed tomorrow, authorities announce

All schools in Ranchi district will remain closed on June 19, 2025, due to a heavy rain alert. The decision was announced by the Ranchi district administration on Wednesday. It applies to both government and private schools, and covers all classes from KG to Class 12.

This step has been taken as a safety measure to protect students from any possible danger caused by heavy rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Jharkhand, especially in the Ranchi region. As a result, authorities have decided to act early and prevent any untoward incidents.

The official notice, issued by Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri, clearly stated that all schools in the district should be shut. "In view of the possibility of heavy rainfall and for the safety of students, all categories of schools in the district are to remain closed on June 19," the notice read.

The order covers all classes from kindergarten to Class 12. The district administration warned that any school found open on this day will face strict action. Legal steps will be taken under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 if the order is ignored.

Red alert in many districts

The IMD has issued a red alert for many districts in Jharkhand. This includes Bokaro, Dhanbad, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Khunti, Saraikela-Kharswan, East Singhbhum, and West Singhbhum for Wednesday, June 18. For Thursday, June 19, the red alert continues for Ranchi, Khunti, Lohardaga, Gumla, and Simdega.

This red alert means that there is a very high chance of extremely heavy rainfall, which could cause waterlogging, floods, traffic problems, and damage to public infrastructure. In such cases, schools and offices are often closed to keep people safe.

An official from the Met department said that the southwest monsoon has now fully covered Jharkhand. This is the reason for the sudden and intense rain across the state. The rains are expected to continue until June 20.

People living in the affected districts have been advised to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay alert. Emergency teams and disaster management units are already on standby to handle any possible situation.

The administration has also asked parents and teachers to cooperate with the school closure order and ensure that children stay safe at home. Local authorities are also keeping a close watch on low-lying areas that are prone to flooding.
