AAP outraged by Kejriwal's arrest; Mann calls it 'Democracy Murder'

AAP fury erupts over Kejriwal's arrest; Mann denounces it as 'Murder of Democracy'

Punjab Chief Minister and senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Bhagwant Mann launched a strong verbal attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His criticism came in response to the arrest of AAP's national convener, Arvind Kejriwal, by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Mann accuses BJP of dictatorial actions

Mann accused the BJP of behaving in a dictatorial manner following Kejriwal's arrest. He condemned the arrest, stating that it occurred without any chargesheet or evidence, labeling it as a "murder of democracy." Mann expressed his concern over what he perceives as a long-standing pattern of using government agencies as weapons against opposition leaders who criticize the BJP.

Speaking at a press conference in Delhi after meeting Kejriwal's family, Mann highlighted a broader trend of harassment faced by non-BJP governments. He cited instances where governors appointed by the BJP allegedly interfered with the functioning of state governments, including his own experiences in Punjab.

Mann also pointed out the challenges faced by other state chief ministers, such as those of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, who have reportedly encountered similar issues with their respective governors. He mentioned the withholding of funds by the Centre, amounting to ₹8,000 crore, as another example of the challenges faced by non-BJP governments in India.
