2 killed, 50 injured as double-decker bus overturns on Lucknow-Agra Expressway
A tragic road accident took place early Thursday on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway near Mandi village in the Saifai area of Uttar Pradesh. A double-decker bus carrying around 80 passengers overturned and fell into a roadside ditch, killing two people and injuring nearly 50 others.
The bus was on its way from Bihar to Delhi when the accident happened. According to the police, the bus was speeding and lost control while trying to overtake a truck. The incident caused chaos and panic among the passengers, many of whom were asleep or resting during the early morning journey.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Brijesh Kumar Srivastava said that other vehicles passing by noticed the accident and quickly informed the police and highway safety teams. Emergency services arrived soon, and a joint rescue operation was launched to help the injured and those trapped inside the bus.
Police, locals, and rescue workers worked together to pull out the injured passengers and transport them to the nearby Saifai Medical College Hospital. Ambulances were quickly arranged, and doctors were alerted in advance to treat the large number of patients. The bodies of the two passengers who died in the accident were sent to the mortuary for further procedures.
Victims identified by police
The two passengers who lost their lives in the crash have been identified. One was Shaida, a 22-year-old woman from Bardah in Nepal. The other was Manoj Kumar, a 52-year-old man from Rampur Deeha in Darbhanga, Bihar.
Authorities are now trying to inform the families of the victims. Many of the injured people are reported to be in stable condition, though a few are being closely monitored due to more serious injuries.
The overturned bus, damaged heavily in the accident, was later pulled out of the ditch. Traffic on the expressway was affected briefly during the rescue and cleanup operation, but normal flow resumed after some time.
Police have also begun an investigation into the accident. Speeding appears to be the main reason behind the mishap, especially since the driver lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle. The bus was carrying more than 80 passengers, and early signs suggest it may have been overcrowded, making the crash even more dangerous.

Road accidents involving long-distance buses have become a serious concern in India, especially on highways where vehicles often travel at high speed. Officials say that strict monitoring of driver behavior, especially on private buses, is necessary to reduce such incidents.
In this case, passengers who survived the crash are also being questioned to find out more details about what happened just before the accident. Many of them were shocked and traumatised by the sudden turn of events.
In summary, a double-decker bus heading to Delhi from Bihar overturned on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway, killing two passengers and injuring at least 50 others. The cause was likely high speed and a failed attempt to overtake another vehicle. Quick action by police and passersby helped save lives, and the injured are receiving treatment in hospital. Authorities are continuing their investigation to fix responsibility and prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
