BJP MLA Shyam Bihari Lal passes away in Bareilly a day after turning 60, CM Yogi mourns

 

Uttar Pradesh witnessed a moment of deep sorrow on Friday after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Dr Shyam Bihari Lal passed away suddenly in Bareilly district. He was the sitting MLA from the Faridpur Assembly constituency. According to early reports, he suffered a heart attack and died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

The news of his death has shocked political leaders, party workers, and local residents. What made the incident even more heartbreaking was that Dr Shyam Bihari Lal had celebrated his 60th birthday just one day earlier, on January 1. His sudden passing has left his family, supporters, and colleagues in deep grief.

Sudden illness and death

Dr Shyam Bihari Lal reportedly fell ill while attending a meeting at the Circuit House in Bareilly. The meeting was attended by Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Dharampal Singh. During the discussion, the MLA suddenly complained of discomfort and collapsed, creating panic among those present.

He was immediately taken to Medisity Hospital on Pilibhit Road for emergency treatment. Doctors made efforts to revive him, but sadly, he could not be saved. Hospital authorities later confirmed that he had suffered a heart attack.

The sudden nature of his death has shocked many people in the region. Local residents gathered outside the hospital after hearing the news, while party workers expressed disbelief and sadness. Many said Dr Shyam Bihari Lal appeared healthy and active just hours before the incident.

Leaders from different political parties also expressed grief over his passing. Many described him as a calm, educated, and dedicated public representative who worked sincerely for the development of his constituency.

Political and academic journey

Dr Shyam Bihari Lal was not only a politician but also an academic. He lived in Shakti Nagar Colony on Pilibhit Road in Bareilly. Before entering active politics, he served as the Head of the History Department at Rohilkhand University. He was known among students and colleagues as a disciplined teacher with deep knowledge of history.

His journey in politics began in 2012 when he contested the Faridpur Assembly seat, which is a reserved constituency, on a BJP ticket. Although he lost the election by a narrow margin, he did not give up. He continued working among the people and stayed connected with the ground issues of the constituency.

In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Dr Shyam Bihari Lal contested again and emerged victorious. He defeated Samajwadi Party candidate Dr Siyaram Sagar and became the MLA from Faridpur for the first time. His win was seen as an important moment in his political career.

He further strengthened his political position in the 2022 Assembly elections when he won from Faridpur for the second consecutive time. His repeated victories showed the trust and support he enjoyed among the voters of his constituency.

As an MLA, he was known for raising local issues and focusing on development work. People in Faridpur remembered him as a leader who was easily accessible and willing to listen to public concerns. He often visited villages and interacted directly with residents.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep sorrow over the sudden death of the MLA. In a message, he called the loss extremely painful and offered his condolences to the grieving family. He prayed for peace for the departed soul and strength for the family to cope with the tragedy.

Many BJP leaders and workers also paid tribute to Dr Shyam Bihari Lal. They said his contribution to both education and politics would always be remembered. His death has created a void not only in Faridpur but also within the BJP organization in Bareilly district.

The passing of Dr Shyam Bihari Lal has once again highlighted the unpredictable nature of life. Just a day after celebrating his milestone birthday, his life came to an unexpected end. As the state mourns his loss, his work as a teacher, politician, and public servant continues to be remembered by those whose lives he touched.
