US President Donald Trump has announced that he will become the main attraction at a major event planned for America’s 250th Independence Day celebration after several musicians reportedly decided not to take part.
The event, called the Great American State Fair, is planned as a large celebration connected to the 250th anniversary of the United States. It will begin in late June and continue for more than two weeks before Independence Day on July 4.
According to reports, Trump decided to take a central role in the event after several performers withdrew from the programme. He said he plans to give a major speech and described himself as the “No. 1 attraction” at the celebration.
The event is being organised in Washington, DC, and is expected to include entertainment, exhibits, performances and activities linked to all 50 US states and territories.
Trump announces himself as the main attraction
According to reports, Trump spoke with advisers and later announced that he would headline the celebration himself.
In a social media message, Trump praised his own popularity and said he attracts huge crowds. He compared himself to famous music icon Elvis Presley and said he draws larger audiences despite not being a singer.
Trump wrote that he was considering bringing the “Number One Attraction” to the event and referred to himself while saying he attracts massive audiences around the world.
He also said he plans to deliver a major speech during the celebration. According to him, only “great patriots” would be invited to attend the speech.
The announcement came after several music performers reportedly pulled out of the event shortly after their names were announced.
The US President said his speech would help inspire people and move the country forward. He added that he had done the same during his time as president.
Trump also criticised performers who withdrew from the programme, calling them “third-rate artists” in a social media post.

Artists step away from the event
The Great American State Fair was originally promoted as a large national celebration featuring music, cultural programmes and attractions for families.
Earlier announcements said the fair would include performances by well-known artists, including country singer Martina McBride and rock musician Bret Michaels.
Organisers also promoted entertainment attractions, including a giant Ferris wheel expected to stand around 110 feet tall.
However, within a few days of the event announcement, several musicians reportedly withdrew.
Some artists later said they were not fully aware of the political nature of the event when they first agreed to participate.
Musician Bret Michaels said in a social media post that what was first presented as a national celebration had changed into something more politically divisive.
He also said concerns had been raised about the safety of his fans, family, crew and team members.
Following such withdrawals, Trump reportedly decided to place himself at the centre of the event.
His supporters welcomed the announcement, while critics questioned whether a public Independence Day celebration should become closely tied to one political personality.
What is the Great American State Fair?
The Great American State Fair is being planned as a major celebration connected to America’s 250th Independence Day anniversary.
According to the White House, the idea reportedly began during Trump’s election campaign when he imagined a nationwide celebration highlighting every US state and territory.
The plan includes separate pavilions or exhibition areas representing different states. These spaces are expected to showcase each state’s culture, traditions, food, history and achievements.
Organisers say the goal is to give visitors a unique experience that reflects the diversity of the United States.
The event is being planned by a group called Freedom 250, which is seen as supportive of Trump and his political movement.
Freedom 250 says the event is nonpartisan and meant to celebrate the country and its people. However, critics argue that the event appears closely linked to Trump’s political identity and supporters.
Many observers believe this has become a reason for public debate around the fair.
More events planned for the 250th anniversary
The Great American State Fair is not the only programme planned for the country’s 250th Independence Day celebration.
Reports say the Trump administration is also planning other major events to mark the occasion.
These include a Freedom 250 Grand Prix IndyCar race in downtown Washington, DC, and even a UFC fight on the South Lawn of the White House.
At the same time, another organisation called America250 is separately planning anniversary events.
America250 was created by the US Congress as a bipartisan initiative. It is expected to host national events, including a large celebration in New York’s Times Square.
This means Americans may see different types of celebrations happening across the country to mark the historic anniversary.
Questions over politics and celebration
The event has also raised questions about whether national celebrations should remain politically neutral.
Some critics feel that Independence Day events should unite people from different political beliefs instead of becoming associated with one political leader.
Others argue that Trump’s strong role in the celebration reflects his popularity among supporters and his influence in American politics.
Despite the debate, preparations for the fair continue.
Trump has now officially positioned himself as the main attraction of the celebration and says he will address supporters during the event.
With Independence Day still weeks away, attention is likely to remain focused on whether more performers join or leave the fair and how Americans respond to the unusual decision of a sitting president becoming the headline act of a national celebration.
