Indian shooting legend Jaspal Rana has died at the age of 49, leaving the sports world in shock. The former champion shooter and coach of Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker passed away at Max Super Speciality Hospital in Delhi after a serious heart-related illness.
His death came as a surprise because doctors said he was recovering well and was almost ready to go home. But a rare heart complication suddenly took his life.
Jaspal Rana was one of the biggest names in Indian shooting. He won many medals for the country and later became one of India’s top shooting coaches.
His death is being seen as a huge loss for Indian sports.
Doctors said Rana had suffered a severe heart attack a few days before reaching the hospital. The problem became worse because treatment was delayed.
He was travelling and continued to feel chest pain for nearly three days.
According to doctors, this delay caused serious damage to his heart.
When he finally reached the hospital, his condition was critical.
Doctors found that one of the main arteries in his heart was completely blocked. Because of this blockage, blood flow to the heart had stopped properly.
This had badly affected his heart’s pumping power.
Doctors said he was already in heart failure when admitted.
He was immediately treated and underwent a stent procedure to open the blocked artery.
A stent is a small tube placed inside the artery to restore blood flow.
After the treatment, his condition improved.
Doctors believed he was responding well and recovering.
Family members and fans were hopeful.
But then, during his sleep, Rana suffered a rare condition called cardiac rupture.
This is when the wall of the heart tears due to severe damage caused by a heart attack.
Doctors said this complication can happen in some cases, especially when the patient reaches the hospital late.
It is rare but very dangerous.
The rupture caused sudden death.
Doctors explained that even if a patient starts feeling better after treatment, the heart remains weak after a major heart attack.
This is why monitoring remains important.
Experts said chest pain should never be ignored.
A heart attack can start with mild pain, heaviness in the chest, sweating, breathing trouble or pain in the arm and jaw.
Immediate treatment can save lives.

What caused the sudden death
Doctors treating Rana said the main reason for his death was the delay in getting medical help.
The heart attack had happened nearly three days before he came to the hospital.
During those days, the heart muscle was not getting enough oxygen.
Without oxygen, parts of the heart tissue start dying.
This weakens the heart.
Even though doctors managed to restore blood flow with a stent, the earlier damage remained serious.
This made the heart very fragile.
A cardiac rupture happens when the damaged part of the heart breaks.
It often leads to internal bleeding and sudden collapse.
Doctors said this is one of the deadliest complications after a heart attack.
It is uncommon but can happen.
This case has once again reminded people about the importance of quick treatment.
Heart experts say the “golden hour” after a heart attack is the most important.
If treatment begins within the first hour, survival chances improve greatly.
Waiting for days can make recovery much harder.
Health experts are advising people not to ignore chest pain or discomfort.
Early testing and treatment can prevent such tragedies.
