Seven killed in separate UP road mishaps

Multiple road crashes in Uttar Pradesh leave seven dead, several injured

At least seven people lost their lives and more than a dozen were injured in multiple road accidents across Uttar Pradesh, police said. The incidents happened in Bareilly, Etah, and Amethi districts over Friday night and Saturday morning, causing widespread shock and prompting emergency rescue operations.

In Bareilly, three people were killed and ten others injured after a head-on collision between a van and a bus near Barheypura village on the Bareilly-Bisalpur Road. The accident occurred around 1:30 am on Saturday under the Bhuta police station area. According to officials, all the passengers were returning home for Diwali celebrations. The deceased were identified as Rakesh (35), Gaurav (19), and Jitendra (20), Bareilly Superintendent of Police (South) Anshika Verma said.

Police and fire personnel conducted a late-night rescue operation at the crash site. Using cutters and other tools, they freed passengers trapped in the mangled van. Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident was caused by speeding and an attempt to overtake another vehicle. Four of the injured remain in critical condition and are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.

Multiple accidents in Etah and Amethi claim lives

In Amethi, two young men, Deepak Kumar (20) and Devendra Kumar (22), died instantly when their motorcycle was hit by a speeding truck near Chaheti Nagar on the Lucknow-Varanasi Highway in the Jagdishpur area early Saturday morning. Station House Officer (SHO) Dhirendra Yadav said the truck has been seized, and the bodies were sent for postmortem examination.

Etah district witnessed two separate motorcycle accidents on Friday night, killing two people and seriously injuring four others. The first accident occurred near Bahgo village in Jaithra area, where two motorcycles collided head-on. A 70-year-old man, Shyamveer, died in the crash, while his grandson Himanshu and two others were injured.

In a second accident in Etah, a 16-year-old teenager, Satyam, died when his motorcycle collided with another while he was heading to a petrol pump late at night. Police registered cases for both incidents and sent the bodies for postmortem.

Police officials have attributed these accidents mainly to speeding, reckless driving, and overtaking on narrow roads. Many of the victims were young, highlighting the urgent need for safer driving practices, particularly during the festive season when traffic is heavy.

Rescue operations in these accidents involved coordination between police, fire departments, and local volunteers. Emergency teams worked through the night to clear wreckage, provide first aid to injured passengers, and transport them to hospitals. Authorities also urged road users to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic rules to avoid further tragedies.

Authorities’ response and ongoing investigation

The police are investigating all the accidents to determine the exact causes and identify any negligence. In Bareilly, police officials are examining the bus and van drivers’ actions and checking whether speed or overshooting lanes contributed to the crash. Witness statements and CCTV footage from nearby areas are being collected to piece together the sequence of events.

In Amethi and Etah, traffic authorities have started monitoring accident-prone areas more closely. They are also planning awareness campaigns about road safety for motorcyclists and young drivers, who appear to be most affected. Local administrations have been asked to review speed limits, road signage, and street lighting, especially on highways and rural roads where accidents are frequent.

Officials stressed that accidents during festive seasons are common due to increased traffic, alcohol consumption, and hurried travel. Police officers and traffic personnel have been instructed to enforce traffic rules strictly and check overspeeding vehicles. They also urged drivers and riders to wear helmets, avoid riding at night without lights, and follow lane discipline.

The recent spate of accidents, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries, underscores the need for better road safety measures across Uttar Pradesh. Families of victims have been consoled by local officials, and compensation measures for the deceased and injured are being explored.

In conclusion, the road accidents in Bareilly, Etah, and Amethi serve as a stark reminder of the dangers of speeding and risky driving. Authorities are working on rescue operations, investigations, and preventive measures, but the public is being urged to prioritize safety and follow traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life.
