Security tightened ahead of Holi festival
Haryana police register 461 FIRs and arrest 1,048 accused in state-wide crackdown
Haryana Police carried out a massive state-wide crackdown on March 2 and registered 461 FIRs across different districts. During this special operation, 1,048 accused were arrested. The action was taken as part of efforts to maintain law and order before the Holi festival.
According to a police spokesperson, the drive was conducted by 1,460 teams made up of 7,471 police personnel. The teams carried out raids and checking operations across the state. The cases were registered under different laws, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the NDPS Act, the Excise Act, and the Arms Act.
Police officials said the main aim of the operation was to stop illegal activities such as drug trafficking, illegal liquor sale, and possession of illegal weapons. They also wanted to catch wanted criminals and prevent any trouble before the festival.
The spokesperson said that strong security arrangements have been made so that people can celebrate Holi in a safe and fear-free environment. Holi is one of the biggest festivals in the state, and large gatherings take place in many areas.
Details of the crackdown
Under the Arms Act, police registered 19 FIRs and arrested 16 accused. During these operations, officers recovered 20 country-made pistols and 11 cartridges. Police said illegal weapons can lead to serious crimes, so special attention was given to tracking such cases.
Apart from this, police arrested 67 criminals during the drive. Among them were 61 proclaimed offenders who had been avoiding arrest for a long time. The operation also led to the arrest of 101 bail jumpers who had failed to appear in court despite being released on bail.
In addition, five most wanted criminals and one reward-carrying criminal were also caught. Police said these arrests were a big success and would help reduce crime in the state.
Special teams were formed in every district. These teams checked suspicious vehicles, visited crime-prone areas, and conducted searches based on intelligence inputs. Senior officers monitored the action closely to ensure smooth coordination.
Police also carried out checking under the NDPS Act to stop drug smuggling and sale. Drug abuse has been a major concern in some parts of the state. Officials said strict action will continue against those involved in drug-related crimes.
Under the Excise Act, cases were registered against those found selling or storing illegal liquor. Police said illegal liquor can pose serious health risks and disturb public order during festivals.

Officials said that awareness campaigns are being conducted to inform people about safe celebrations. People have been advised not to use force while applying colours and to avoid creating nuisance on roads.
The large-scale operation on March 2 was part of a larger plan to ensure safety during the festive season. Police believe that early action against criminals sends a strong message and discourages illegal activities.
Senior officers have said that such drives will continue in the future as well. The focus will remain on maintaining peace and protecting citizens.
Residents have welcomed the move and expressed hope that strong policing will lead to safer celebrations. Many people feel that visible police presence helps prevent troublemakers from creating problems.
Haryana Police has urged citizens to report any suspicious activity immediately. Emergency helpline numbers will remain active throughout the festival period.
