Senior IPS officer Rajeev Krishna appointed as new DGP of Uttar Pradesh
Senior IPS officer Rajeev Krishna has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh. He will now lead the police force in India’s most populous state. This decision was officially announced by the government on Saturday, May 31, 2025.
Rajeev Krishna belongs to the 1991 batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS). Before this new role, he was serving as the Director General (DG) of Vigilance at the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board. Now, he will take charge as the top police officer of the state.
He replaces the outgoing DGP, Prashant Kumar, who retired from service on Saturday. A photo was shared from Lucknow showing Rajeev Krishna with Prashant Kumar on the day of the handover. In the image, both officers were seen together, symbolizing a smooth transition of responsibility.
Long Experience
Rajeev Krishna is known for his strong work in the police department. Over his long career, he has worked in many important roles. He has served in different districts of Uttar Pradesh and taken on many responsibilities. His work in maintaining law and order has been appreciated at both the state and national levels.
As DG Vigilance, Krishna oversaw checks against corruption and irregularities within the police department. This role gave him deep insights into how the police force functions and the challenges it faces. His experience makes him a suitable choice for the top post.
Prashant Kumar, who now retires, was appreciated for his efforts in improving law and order during his tenure. Now, with Krishna taking over, the state government hopes to maintain this progress and further strengthen policing in Uttar Pradesh.
