PM Modi unveils Rs 7,200 crore projects in Bihar
PM Modi launches projects worth over Rs 7,200 crore in Bihar, from Amrit Bharat trains to road upgrades
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Motihari in Bihar on Friday and unveiled a range of development projects worth over Rs 7,200 crore. These projects include new trains, rail line upgrades, and important road infrastructure work. The visit comes just months before the Assembly elections in the state. Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary, highlighted that this was PM Modi’s 53rd visit to Bihar since 2014, underlining the central government’s focus on the state’s development.
During the event, PM Modi flagged off four new Amrit Bharat trains, which aim to provide faster, comfortable, and affordable travel for passengers. The trains will run on key routes, including Rajendra Nagar (Patna) to New Delhi, Bapudham Motihari to Delhi (Anand Vihar terminal), Darbhanga to Lucknow (Gomti Nagar), and Malda Town to Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) via Bhagalpur. These routes will connect Bihar with major cities and are expected to ease travel for both daily commuters and long-distance passengers.
Along with new train services, the Prime Minister dedicated several railway projects to the nation. One of the key upgrades is the installation of automatic signalling systems on the Samastipur-Bachhwara stretch, which will make train operations more efficient and reduce delays. Additionally, the doubling of the Darbhanga-Thalwara and Samastipur-Rambhadrapur railway lines, costing over Rs 580 crore, will boost rail capacity and improve connectivity in the region.
PM Modi also laid the foundation stones for infrastructure facilities to maintain Vande Bharat trains at Patliputra. Another important project includes automatic signalling on the 114-km Bhatni-Chhapra Gramin route. This modernisation of the signalling system will allow trains to run more smoothly and at higher speeds, improving overall efficiency. The government also announced the doubling of the Darbhanga-Narkatiaganj rail line at an estimated cost of around Rs 4,080 crore. This project is expected to increase passenger and freight traffic capacity, improving Bihar’s rail connectivity with other states.
Boost to road connectivity
The Prime Minister’s visit was not limited to railway projects. He also laid the foundation stones and inaugurated multiple road infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity and reducing travel time in Bihar. One of the major initiatives is the 4-laning of the Ara bypass of NH-319, which links Ara-Mohania NH-319 with Patna-Buxar NH-922. This development will ensure smoother travel between key towns, enhance freight movement, and reduce traffic congestion in the region.
PM Modi also inaugurated the 4-lane Parariya to Mohania section of NH-319, which has been built at a cost of over Rs 820 crore. This stretch is part of NH-319 that connects Ara Town to NH-2 (Golden Quadrilateral), significantly boosting trade and passenger movement. Better road infrastructure is expected to create economic opportunities by connecting local markets to major trade routes.

Another project launched during the event is the construction of a 2-lane road with paved shoulders from Sarwan to Chakai on NH-333C. This road will serve as a vital link between Bihar and Jharkhand, improving the flow of goods and easing travel for residents of both states. These road projects are part of a broader effort to create a strong transport network in Bihar, ensuring both rural and urban areas benefit from faster connectivity.
The combined focus on rail and road development shows the government’s plan to strengthen Bihar’s infrastructure for long-term growth. Faster trains, improved highways, and modern facilities will not only reduce travel time but also support industries, agriculture, and tourism. As Bihar gears up for its Assembly elections, these projects are likely to bring significant changes to the state’s transportation and economic landscape.
PM Modi’s inauguration of these projects signals the government’s commitment to improving connectivity and modernising transport systems across the country. For Bihar, which has long faced challenges in infrastructure development, the launch of these projects marks a step forward in boosting its growth and linking it more effectively with the rest of India.
