NTA may soon announce fresh NEET exam dates
NEET UG re-exam likely in June as paper leak probe intensifies
Lakhs of medical aspirants across India are waiting for clarity after the cancellation of NEET UG 2026 due to alleged paper leak allegations. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to announce the fresh examination dates very soon. According to earlier statements made by the NTA Director General, the re-exam schedule will be prepared while keeping the academic calendar and other important entrance exams in mind.
Reports suggest that the NEET UG 2026 re-exam is likely to take place in June. Students and parents are closely watching every new development because the cancellation of the country’s biggest medical entrance exam has created uncertainty, stress and disappointment among lakhs of candidates.
The original NEET UG 2026 examination was conducted on May 3 for more than 22 lakh students across the country. However, allegations of a question paper leak later surfaced, forcing authorities to cancel the examination and order a fresh test.
The issue has now become one of the biggest education controversies in recent years. Investigating agencies, including the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), are examining the alleged leak network, money trail and digital evidence connected to the case.
At the same time, students are trying to understand what will happen next, when the new exam will take place and whether the examination process will become more secure in the future.
Re-exam process and fresh admit cards
The National Testing Agency has clarified that students will not have to register again for the re-examination. All details submitted during the original NEET UG 2026 registration process will remain valid.
According to the NTA, the existing registration data, candidature information and examination centre choices from the May 2026 exam cycle will automatically be carried forward for the re-conducted examination. Students will not need to pay any extra examination fee.
The agency also said that the fees already paid by students would be refunded. The re-examination will reportedly be conducted using NTA’s internal resources.
This announcement has brought some relief to candidates because many students were worried about having to repeat the lengthy registration process once again. Parents had also raised concerns regarding additional financial burden and confusion.
However, students will receive fresh admit cards for the re-examination. The earlier admit cards used for the cancelled examination will no longer remain valid.
Once released, the new admit cards can be downloaded from the official NEET website. Students are being advised to regularly check official announcements instead of relying on rumours spreading online.
Many students are also anxious because the delay in examination schedules may affect counselling, admissions and the overall academic calendar for medical colleges. Experts believe authorities are trying to announce the new date quickly so that academic delays can be minimised.
This is not the first time NEET has faced controversy. In 2024, a similar cancellation led to a re-exam that was conducted on June 23. Because of that earlier experience, many students believe the new exam may also happen sometime in June.
Education experts say conducting a smooth and fair examination is now extremely important to restore public confidence. Students have spent years preparing for NEET, often studying for long hours under intense pressure. Therefore, transparency and strict security measures will be closely watched during the re-examination.
The cancellation has also created emotional stress among candidates. Many students felt mentally exhausted after preparing for months and appearing for the original examination. The sudden cancellation forced them to restart revision and continue studying during an uncertain period.
Parents and teachers are encouraging students to remain calm and maintain a balanced study routine until official dates are announced. Psychologists also advise students to avoid excessive social media discussions because constant rumours can increase anxiety levels.

CBI investigates money trail and leak network
Meanwhile, the CBI has intensified its investigation into the alleged NEET paper leak case. According to sources, investigators are tracing the money trail linked to the racket and examining how the question paper was circulated before the examination.
Reports claim that students were allegedly charged between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 5 lakh to gain access to the leaked question paper. Investigators believe the operation may have been highly organised and involved multiple people connected through personal networks and closed communication channels.
According to the investigation, the NEET question paper allegedly reached Rajasthan through an accused person identified as Yash Yadav, who was reportedly linked to another accused named Vikas Biwal.
Investigators further claimed that Vikas Biwal’s father, Dinesh Biwal, allegedly scanned the hard copy of the question paper and converted it into PDF files. Sources say the paper was handwritten before scanning and later shared with students studying at coaching institutes in Rajasthan’s Sikar district.
The accused persons arrested in the case were presented before a magistrate in Jaipur. After receiving custodial remand, five accused individuals are currently being questioned at the CBI headquarters.
The probe has also uncovered alleged financial transactions connected to the leak network. According to sources, investigators found evidence of nearly Rs 10 lakh being exchanged between accused individuals and NEET aspirants.
Reports claim that students were allegedly promised that nearly 150 out of 180 questions in the actual examination would match the leaked mock papers provided to them earlier.
Sources also revealed that some students allegedly paid an advance amount of Rs 30,000 even before confirmation that the leaked material matched the real paper.
Another major development in the investigation involves digital communication. According to reports, one accused person’s son, who was also a NEET candidate, allegedly created a WhatsApp group to connect students interested in accessing the leaked paper.
The CBI is now examining WhatsApp chats, mobile phone records, bank transactions and digital evidence as part of the investigation.
At the same time, legal challenges are also increasing. The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has approached the Supreme Court demanding major reforms in the examination system.
The organisation has requested either a restructuring or replacement of the National Testing Agency with a more autonomous and stronger examination body. It argued that repeated paper leak incidents have affected the rights and future of millions of students.
The medical body has also demanded the formation of a high-powered monitoring committee to oversee the re-examination process and ensure fairness.
As investigations continue, students across the country now wait for two important developments — the announcement of the fresh NEET UG 2026 examination date and stronger safeguards to prevent future paper leaks.
