Kolkata Knight Riders kept their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive after registering a strong 29-run victory against Gujarat Titans at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday night. The high-scoring match turned into a memorable evening for KKR as Finn Allen, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Cameron Green played outstanding innings to help their team post a massive total.
The win has given Kolkata fresh hope in the race for the playoffs, while Gujarat Titans suffered an important setback despite a fighting knock from captain Shubman Gill.
The match was the 60th game of the IPL 2026 season and both teams entered the contest under pressure. Kolkata needed a victory to remain in contention for the knockout stage, while Gujarat wanted to strengthen their position near the top of the table.
KKR batters dominate at Eden Gardens
After winning the toss, Kolkata Knight Riders came in to bat first at their home ground. The team did not have the best possible start as captain Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed early after scoring only 14 runs. Gujarat Titans bowlers initially looked disciplined and hoped to put pressure on the KKR batting line-up.
However, opener Finn Allen completely changed the momentum of the match with an explosive innings. The New Zealand batter attacked the Gujarat bowlers from the beginning and played shots all around the ground. He smashed boundaries regularly and entertained the crowd with fearless batting.
Allen scored a brilliant 93 runs from only 35 balls. His innings included powerful sixes and aggressive stroke play that pushed Kolkata into a commanding position. Gujarat bowlers struggled to control him as the run rate increased rapidly.
Even after Allen missed out on a century, Kolkata continued their attack. Young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi played another important innings for the team. He looked calm and confident throughout his stay at the crease and rotated the strike effectively while also finding boundaries at regular intervals.
Raghuvanshi remained unbeaten on 82 runs from 44 deliveries. His innings showed maturity and composure under pressure. The youngster supported the team during the middle overs and ensured that Kolkata maintained the aggressive tempo.
Cameron Green also made a major contribution with the bat. The Australian all-rounder scored an unbeaten 52 runs from 28 balls and finished the innings strongly in the death overs. Green used his power-hitting ability to punish loose deliveries and added crucial runs in the final stages.
Thanks to the combined efforts of Allen, Raghuvanshi and Green, Kolkata Knight Riders posted a massive total of 247 runs in their 20 overs.
For Gujarat Titans, Mohammed Siraj and Sai Kishore were the only bowlers who managed to take wickets. However, the Gujarat bowling attack struggled badly overall as Kolkata batters dominated the innings from start to finish.
The large target meant Gujarat Titans needed one of the best run chases of the season to win the match.

Gujarat fight hard but fall short
Gujarat Titans began their chase with openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan walking out to bat. The team needed an aggressive start and captain Gill quickly took responsibility.
Gill played an excellent innings under pressure and kept Gujarat in the contest for a long time. He looked confident against both pace and spin and played several elegant shots during his knock. The Indian batter scored 85 runs from 49 balls and gave his team hope during the difficult chase.
Sai Sudharsan faced fitness concerns during the innings and spent a significant period off the field due to injury. His absence hurt Gujarat because the team needed strong partnerships while chasing such a huge target.
Nishant Sindhu came in during the middle order but could not make an impact and was dismissed for only one run. Gujarat then depended heavily on Gill and Jos Buttler to continue the chase.
Buttler also played positively and scored 57 runs from 35 deliveries. He attacked the bowlers and tried to reduce the required run rate with aggressive batting. The partnership between Gill and Buttler briefly brought Gujarat back into the match.
After Gill’s dismissal, Sai Sudharsan returned to bat and tried to continue the fight. He remained unbeaten on 52 runs from 28 balls and showed determination despite his earlier injury concerns.
However, the required run rate kept increasing and Gujarat Titans eventually fell short of the target. Kolkata bowlers managed to hold their nerve in the final overs and secured an important 29-run victory.
The win has boosted Kolkata Knight Riders’ confidence and improved their chances in the playoff race. The team moved up to seventh place in the IPL points table after the victory. Delhi Capitals slipped down to eighth position following KKR’s result.
For Gujarat Titans, the defeat was disappointing because they had several batters contribute during the chase but still could not cross the finish line. Their bowlers also faced criticism after conceding 247 runs.
Kolkata fans celebrated loudly at Eden Gardens after the final ball as their team stayed alive in the tournament. With only a few league matches remaining, every victory now carries huge importance in the race to qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs.
KKR will now hope to continue their winning momentum in the upcoming matches, while Gujarat Titans will look to recover quickly and strengthen their position before the knockout stage begins.
