The jurists and civil services golf tournament concluded successfully at the Chandigarh Golf Club, bringing together members of the judiciary and senior civil services officers for a day of sport and interaction. The event saw enthusiastic participation from 106 players, including 11 judges and several top government officials.
The tournament began early in the morning with a shotgun start at 6:30 am. Despite light rainfall during the day, the weather remained pleasant, allowing players to enjoy the game without major interruptions. The well-maintained course and smooth organisation added to the overall experience.
The event was organised with the aim of encouraging healthy competition and strengthening bonds among professionals from different fields. It also provided a platform for informal interaction between members of the judiciary and administrative services.
Competitive spirit on the course
The tournament featured several categories, ensuring that players of different skill levels could compete fairly. Participants showcased impressive golfing skills, making the competition both exciting and engaging.
One of the standout performances came from Mahendra Pal Gurjar, an IAS officer from Himachal Pradesh, who emerged as the overall net winner with a score of 60. Aditya Gupta, a PCS officer, secured the overall gross title with a score of 70, highlighting his strong performance on the course.
In the ladies category, Mani Chander claimed the top position with a score of 72, followed closely by Gurpreet Kaur Deo, an IPS officer, who finished with 73. Their performances reflected the growing participation and excellence of women in such events.
Justice Mahesh Grover delivered an impressive performance in the 9-hole (gross) category, finishing with a score of 45. His achievement was one of the key highlights of the tournament.
Several special contests also added excitement to the event. Tarun Lehal recorded the longest drive of the day, covering an impressive distance of 301 yards. Rajesh Dhara from CGST Panchkula won the nearest-to-the-pin contest with a remarkable distance of just 1 foot 2 inches, demonstrating precision and control. Rajan Gupta, a retired IAS officer, secured the straightest drive with a deviation of only 6 inches.
Other winners included Kulwaran Singh (IRS retired), who won in the above 65 (net) category, Naunihal Singh (IPS), who topped the 51–65 (net) category, and Mahendra Pal Gurjar, who also won in the below 50 (net) category, making it a memorable day for him.
Ceremony and dignitaries
The prize distribution ceremony was a grand affair and was attended by several distinguished guests. Ashim Kumar Ghosh, the Governor of Haryana, graced the occasion as the chief guest. He was accompanied by his wife, Mitra Ghosh.
Also present at the ceremony was Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia, whose presence added importance to the event. Their participation reflected the significance of the tournament and its appeal among high-ranking officials.
