Director says Allu Arjun’s next film is not Shaktimaan
Allu Arjun-Shaktimaan rumours spark buzz as director clears the air
Fans of superhero stories in India have been waiting for a Shaktimaan movie for many years. The popular TV superhero, who ruled television during the 1990s and early 2000s, still has a strong fan following. Because of this, every new rumour about a possible Shaktimaan film quickly grabs attention.
Recently, fresh rumours started spreading on social media and entertainment websites. Many reports claimed that actor Allu Arjun, one of the biggest stars in Indian cinema, could soon play Shaktimaan in a film directed by Basil Joseph. The rumours became stronger because Basil Joseph is already known for making a successful superhero movie called Minnal Murali, which was loved by audiences after its release in 2021.
However, a filmmaker connected to Basil Joseph has now clarified that these rumours are not true. According to him, Allu Arjun’s upcoming movie with Basil Joseph is not based on Shaktimaan.
Rumours around the superhero film
The discussion about a Shaktimaan movie is not new. For many years, fans have wanted to see the famous superhero on the big screen. The original TV show was extremely popular among children and families. The character became famous for fighting evil and teaching good values.
Because of this popularity, different actors’ names have often been linked to the role. At one point, actor Ranveer Singh was strongly rumoured to play Shaktimaan. However, actor Mukesh Khanna, who originally played the superhero on television, publicly expressed doubts about Ranveer Singh being the right choice for the role.
After that, attention slowly shifted toward Allu Arjun. Since he is known for his strong screen presence, action scenes and huge fan following, many people began believing that he could become the next Shaktimaan.
The rumours grew stronger after reports claimed that Allu Arjun was planning a film with Basil Joseph. Since Basil had already worked on a superhero film before, fans quickly connected the dots and assumed the project must be Shaktimaan.
Social media discussions increased rapidly, with many fans imagining what Allu Arjun might look like as the superhero.
Director clears confusion about project
Now, filmmaker Arun Anirudhan has spoken about the issue and cleared the confusion.
During an interview with Club FM 94.3, Arun Anirudhan spoke about Basil Joseph’s upcoming work and the possibility of a Shaktimaan project. He revealed that there had indeed been discussions around Shaktimaan.
According to him, he and another writer named Paulson Skaria had worked on writing a screenplay for Basil Joseph’s next project. He explained that Shaktimaan was once expected to become a very big film. However, things did not move forward as expected.
The filmmaker said that the project became complicated and filming could not begin. He also admitted that he is not sure whether the movie will finally happen or not.
When Arun was directly asked if the film currently being planned with Allu Arjun is actually Shaktimaan, he gave a very clear answer. He said the movie has “no connection” with Shaktimaan and is something completely different.
He also added that more details about the film will be shared at the right time.

This clarification has disappointed some fans who were excited to see Allu Arjun as the famous superhero. However, it has also increased curiosity because people now want to know what kind of movie Basil Joseph and Allu Arjun are actually making together.
Meanwhile, Basil Joseph himself has remained careful while speaking about his future projects. In a recent interview with Cineulagam, he did not confirm or deny rumours completely. When asked about his film with Allu Arjun, he simply said that people would see what happens in the future.
When the interviewer specifically asked if the movie was Shaktimaan, Basil avoided giving a direct answer. Instead, he said filmmaking is a long process filled with uncertainty and that he would speak openly about the project when the right time comes.
His careful response only added to the mystery surrounding the movie.
Interestingly, Mukesh Khanna had earlier spoken positively about Allu Arjun playing Shaktimaan. In 2024, he said that while nothing was final, he believed Allu Arjun could suit the superhero role because of his looks and strong personality.
Mukesh Khanna had even said that Allu Arjun has the right physique and screen image to become a powerful Shaktimaan. This comment played a major role in strengthening fan theories online.
Still, as of now, there is no official confirmation that Allu Arjun will play Shaktimaan.
At present, the latest clarification suggests that Basil Joseph’s upcoming film with Allu Arjun is a completely different project. Fans may have to wait longer for a proper Shaktimaan movie announcement.
Even though the rumours have been denied for now, excitement around Shaktimaan clearly remains strong. Fans continue to hope that one day India’s beloved superhero will finally return to screens in a big-budget movie.
