ChatGPT answers if 100 men could beat a gorilla

Could 100 men defeat one gorilla? ChatGPT weighs in on the internet’s wildest hypothetical

A recent viral debate has captivated the internet: Could 100 unarmed men defeat a single silverback gorilla in combat? This hypothetical scenario has sparked widespread discussions across social media platforms, with opinions varying widely.

The Debate unfolds

The question gained traction after a user on X (formerly Twitter) suggested that 100 dedicated individuals could overcome a gorilla. This post quickly went viral, amassing over 270 million views and prompting a flurry of responses. Some users argued that sheer numbers could overpower the gorilla, while others highlighted the animal's immense strength and agility. Celebrities like MrBeast and Elon Musk even chimed in, with MrBeast jokingly seeking volunteers for such a challenge. However, organizations like PETA criticized the discussion, labeling it unethical and highlighting concerns about promoting violence against animals.

Assessing the possibility

Experts and AI analyses have weighed in on the debate. ChatGPT concluded that while 100 average, unarmed men might theoretically overpower a silverback gorilla, it would be with extreme difficulty and likely result in serious injuries or fatalities among the humans involved. The gorilla's strength, speed, and natural weaponry give it a significant advantage.

Silverback gorillas can weigh up to 450 pounds and possess a bite force of 1,300 psi, capable of crushing bones. They can lift over 1,800 pounds and have thick skin and dense fur that provide protection against attacks. Their powerful limbs can deliver devastating blows, making close combat extremely dangerous.

Some analyses suggest that with proper planning, coordination, and the use of tools or restraints, a large group of humans could potentially subdue a gorilla. However, the risk of casualties remains high, and the ethical implications of such a scenario are deeply concerning.
