Chandigarh starts Mission 100 to improve Government School board exam results

Chandigarh launches ‘Mission 100’ to boost Government School board exam results

The Chandigarh education department has started a major plan called “Mission 100” to improve the performance of government school students in Class 10 and 12 board exams. This comes after students from the Union Territory (UT) performed worse than others in the region in the recent Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) exams.

What is Mission 100?

The main aim of this mission is to achieve 100% results in different academic and administrative areas. The focus is on increasing student attendance, ensuring every student passes, and making teachers more responsible for their students’ results. The department has carefully studied the recent board results and wants to improve academic outcomes through clear goals and better planning.

Under Mission 100, the department will:

  • Aim for 100% student attendance in government schools.

  • Aim for a 100% pass rate in CBSE Class 10 and 12 exams.

  • Hold teachers responsible for how their students perform.

  • Give teachers proper training.

  • Offer extra support to weak students.

The education department also plans to hold monthly reviews and use digital tools to analyse each school’s performance. This will help keep track of every student’s academic growth.

To support underperforming students, schools will offer remedial classes. Teachers will have to monitor progress regularly, and reports will be made available through digital platforms. School principals and teachers who show improvement will be rewarded, while those with poor results will be asked to explain the reasons.
On Friday, the first step of Mission 100 began at Government Model High School in Sector 12. UT Education Secretary Prerna Puri led the meeting. She said there should be no reason for students to fail or be placed in the compartment category (students who didn’t clear all subjects). She made it clear that teachers and principals will be held responsible for student failures.

Puri also said that teachers who help students achieve good results will be appreciated. She announced that she will personally visit a government school every Friday and meet 10 school principals over a midday meal to discuss their teaching practices and challenges. This regular interaction is expected to improve the teaching and learning environment in the schools.

She added that a detailed meeting will be held with all school principals to review the board exam results. Teachers who have a large number of students in the compartment category will have to explain what went wrong and how they plan to fix it.

Improving teaching material

Another major part of the plan is to improve the study material given to students in board classes. Puri has asked the education department to form subject-wise committees. These will be led by principals who are experts in their respective subjects. These teams will prepare special learning material for students of Class 10 and 12.

This special content will be prepared and printed before the summer vacations end. It will be given to students when they return to school after the holidays. The aim is to help students learn better and do well in their final exams.

Also, all schools will hold special extra classes for students who failed or were placed in the compartment category. Teachers must give full support to such students and help them pass in the next attempt.
The district education officer will prepare a report on board exam results. This report will:

  • Mention how many students passed, failed, or got a compartment.

  • Analyse student performance in different subjects.

  • Highlight areas where the school needs to improve.

  • Mention if problems were due to students, teachers, or lack of resources.

Once these reports are submitted, the department will take action to fix the problems. All schools will be asked to remove any barriers that stop students from doing well.
To improve results, the education department also wants to involve parents more actively. Parent-teacher meetings (PTMs) will be held especially for students in the compartment category. These meetings will help teachers understand the child’s background and find ways to help them better. It will also encourage parents to support their child’s studies at home.

The School Management Committees (SMCs) will be made stronger. These committees include parents, teachers, and local leaders. They play a big role in making sure schools work well and students are supported properly.

Rewarding excellence

To encourage better performance, the department will also reward top-performing students and schools. Schools that show excellent results will be publicly appreciated, and toppers will be honoured. This step is meant to motivate both teachers and students to work harder.
The launch of Mission 100 shows that the UT administration is serious about improving the quality of education in government schools. The poor board exam results this year were a wake-up call. Many students were placed in the compartment category, which means they failed one or more subjects. This shows that government schools need to do much better in helping their students succeed.

The move also reflects a growing demand for accountability in the education system. Teachers can no longer blame just the students. Now, they have to answer for their teaching methods and how well they prepare students for board exams.

Mission 100 is expected to bring big changes in the way government schools operate. With regular reviews, more responsibility, extra classes, better study materials, and active support from the education department, the hope is that every student will pass and do well in life.
Mission 100 is a bold step towards fixing problems in Chandigarh’s government schools. With strong leadership, monthly reviews, and teacher accountability, it aims to create an education system where no student is left behind. If implemented well, it can become a model for other states too.
