The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is one of the biggest school boards in India, with lakhs of students appearing for Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations every year. Students and parents eagerly wait for the announcement of results, as they play a major role in shaping academic and career opportunities. For the year 2026, CBSE has already announced the examination schedule. Based on past trends, the CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 results are expected to be declared by May 20, 2026.
CBSE class 10 exam details and expected result date
The CBSE Class 10 examinations for 2026 will be conducted in two phases. The first phase is scheduled from February 17 to March 9, 2026, and the second phase is scheduled from May 15 to June 1, 2026. Students who complete their examinations in March can expect their results by early May, most likely around May 9.
The tentative date is calculated by looking at the pattern of the last few years. In most cases, CBSE has declared Class 10 results within 55 to 60 days from the last exam date. For example, in 2025, the Class 10 exams ended on March 18 and the results were declared on May 13, which was exactly 56 days later. Similarly, in 2024, the Class 10 exams concluded on March 13, and the results were announced on May 13, exactly 60 days later.
If this pattern continues, students appearing in the 2026 Class 10 board exams should expect their results by May 9. The results will be made available on the official CBSE websites — cbse.gov.in and results.cbse.nic.in. Students will need to enter their roll number, school number, and date of birth to access their results online.
Apart from the official websites, results are also likely to be available on other platforms such as DigiLocker and UMANG app, making it convenient for students across the country to check their marks without any delay.
CBSE class 12 exam details and expected result date
The CBSE Class 12 board examinations for 2026 are scheduled from February 17 to April 9, 2026. Since the exams extend for a longer period compared to Class 10, the result preparation time is slightly shorter. In recent years, CBSE has been announcing Class 12 results within 40 to 45 days from the last date of examination.
For instance, in 2025, the Class 12 exams ended on April 4 and the results were announced on May 13, just 39 days later. This shows that CBSE has been working towards quicker evaluation and timely release of results. Following this trend, the 2026 Class 12 results are expected to be announced by May 20, which will be around 41 days after the conclusion of the examination on April 9.
Like the Class 10 results, Class 12 results will also be declared on the official CBSE websites and can be accessed with roll number and other details. Students can also check their results through SMS services and DigiLocker.
The Class 12 results are particularly significant because they play a major role in higher education admissions, including universities, engineering colleges, and medical entrance tests. A timely announcement of results ensures that students can apply for admission without delays.
Looking back at cbse result dates of the past decade
To understand the expected timeline better, it is useful to look at the result declaration dates from the past ten years.

2024 – May 13
-
2023 – May 12
-
2022 – July 22
-
2021 – August 3
-
2020 – July 15
-
2019 – May 6
-
2018 – May 29
-
2017 – June 3
-
2016 – May 28
-
2015 – May 28
-
2014 – May 20
The data shows that in normal years, the results have been declared between early May and early June. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic years (2020, 2021, and 2022), the results were delayed due to disruptions in examinations and evaluation. From 2023 onwards, CBSE has returned to its usual schedule, declaring results in mid-May.
Going by this consistent pattern, it is very likely that the 2026 results will also be declared around May 9 for Class 10 and May 20 for Class 12.
Importance of CBSE results for students
The CBSE Class 10 results mark the end of secondary school education and determine the stream of study (Science, Commerce, Arts, or Vocational) that a student can choose in Class 11. A good score in Class 10 helps students secure admission in their preferred schools and streams.
For Class 12 students, the results are even more important. These marks play a decisive role in college admissions, competitive exams, and future career paths. Universities and colleges across India and abroad consider CBSE Class 12 results as part of their eligibility criteria.
