AAP MP Slams BJP in Parliament: “₹50,000 Crore for Punjab Floods or Just Empty Promises?”
Chandigarh, December 5, 2025: Gross Injustice to Punjab! AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang Demands ₹50,000 Crore Special Flood Relief Package in Parliament; Accuses BJP Government of Discrimination
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has exposed the gross neglect and discrimination by the Centre’s BJP government in Parliament following the devastating floods in Punjab. AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang raised the issue of massive losses in Punjab during Wednesday’s Lok Sabha session and demanded the BJP-led Central government immediately release a special relief package of ₹50,000 crore for flood-affected areas.
The Anandpur Sahib MP directly targeted the Centre’s Modi government, alleging that 2,500 villages across six districts severely affected by floods have not received a single rupee from the Centre even after two months.
The MP informed the House that catastrophic floods a few months ago completely devastated approximately 2,500 villages in Punjab and destroyed crops across more than 5 lakh acres. He emphasized that the border districts were worst hit, reminding the House that these are the same districts whose people fought shoulder-to-shoulder with the Indian Army during ‘Operation Sandoor.’
Expressing his anguish, Kang said that the Prime Minister and various Union Ministers visited Punjab after the floods, but even after two months, no financial assistance has been provided to help people in these six districts get back on their feet.
Taking aim at the Centre’s Modi government, he questioned the double standards: “When there are elections in Bihar, you auction packages of ₹50,000 crore, ₹70,000 crore and even ₹90,000 crore.” He expressed outrage that Punjab, which made the greatest contribution to the nation’s freedom struggle and filling the country’s granaries, has been abandoned in times of crisis. He called it “the biggest discrimination” and held the BJP government responsible.
MP Kang also criticized the Haryana and Rajasthan governments, which demand Punjab’s share of water but failed to stand with Punjab during this disaster.
The AAP MP urged the BJP government to immediately release a special package of ₹50,000 crore. He said this amount is desperately needed for Punjab’s flood-affected people whose homes, hospitals, roads and entire infrastructure have been destroyed, and whose 5 lakh acres of crops have been ruined.
He clarified that these funds are specifically needed to help people in border areas get back on their feet and rehabilitate themselves - people who fight for the nation. The AAP government will continue fighting against this injustice and the Centre must give Punjab its rightful due.
