The Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a strong protest in Amritsar on Saturday against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. The protest was organised to demand justice for the family of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, a warehousing corporation official who allegedly died by suicide last month.

Senior BJP leaders gathered at Hall Gate in Amritsar and raised slogans against the state government. They accused the AAP government of failing to deliver justice and demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the case. The protest saw participation from key party leaders including Sunil Jakhar, Ashwani Sharma, Tarun Chugh, and Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu.

The leaders said that their protest was not political but aimed at ensuring justice for the victim’s family. They claimed that the current investigation by the Punjab Police was not trustworthy and demanded an independent inquiry.

BJP demands fair probe and justice

Gagandeep Singh Randhawa was working as a district manager with the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation in Amritsar. He allegedly consumed poison on March 21. His death created a major controversy after a video surfaced in which he reportedly accused then transport minister Laljit Singh Bhullar of harassment.

Following the incident, Bhullar resigned from his ministerial position on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He was later arrested by the police along with others named in the case.

Police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including abetment of suicide, criminal intimidation, and common intention. Bhullar’s father and his personal assistant were also named in the FIR.

Despite these actions, BJP leaders alleged that the investigation has not been fair or transparent. They claimed that the Randhawa family does not trust the state police and is seeking a CBI probe to ensure justice.

Speaking at the protest, Sunil Jakhar said the issue should not be seen as a political fight. He stressed that the focus should remain on justice for the family. He assured the gathering that the BJP stands firmly with the victim’s family and will continue to raise the issue until their demands are met.

Ashwani Sharma also supported the demand for a CBI investigation. He said the family has lost faith in the current system and believes that only an independent agency can conduct a fair probe. He criticised the state government for not taking strong steps to build public trust in the justice system.

Allegations against government and rising tensions

During the protest, BJP leaders strongly criticised the AAP government and accused it of trying to protect Bhullar. They questioned why strict action had not been taken against all those named in the case.

Ashwani Sharma openly asked Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann why he was allegedly trying to shield the former minister. He also warned that the BJP would continue its protests if a CBI inquiry is not ordered soon.

The leaders further alleged that Bhullar was being given special or “VIP” treatment in jail. They also raised concerns that his father and personal assistant, who were named in the case, had not been arrested yet. These claims have added to the political tension surrounding the case.

BJP leader Tarun Chugh also criticised the law and order situation in Punjab. He described the AAP government as ineffective and said that such incidents reflect poor governance. According to him, cases involving serious allegations should be handled with urgency and fairness to maintain public confidence.

The protest in Amritsar is part of a larger political confrontation between the BJP and the AAP in Punjab. While the AAP government has taken steps such as accepting Bhullar’s resignation and making arrests, the opposition believes these actions are not enough.

The case has also sparked wider discussions about accountability and transparency in governance. Many people are closely following the developments, as the outcome could have a significant impact on public trust in the system.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Police has continued its investigation into the case. Officials have said that the probe is ongoing and all necessary legal steps are being taken. However, opposition leaders remain unconvinced and continue to demand an independent inquiry.

In conclusion, the protest by the Punjab BJP highlights growing political and public pressure on the AAP government over the Randhawa death case. While the government maintains that due process is being followed, the opposition is pushing for a CBI probe to ensure fairness.

The coming days will be crucial as the investigation progresses and demands for an independent inquiry grow stronger. For now, the focus remains on whether justice will be delivered to the Randhawa family and whether the case will lead to further political developments in the state.
