The Delhi government has approved a new 4-kilometre elevated road in South Delhi to reduce heavy traffic and make travel faster. This new road will be built on Sant Shri Nagpal (SSN) Marg in Chhatarpur and is expected to make travel from South Delhi to Gurgaon much quicker.
Officials say the new signal-free elevated corridor will reduce travel time from 19 minutes to just 6.6 minutes. This is big news for thousands of daily commuters who face long traffic jams on this route every day.
The flyover will connect Anuvrat Marg to DLF Farms along SSN Marg. This stretch is one of the busiest roads in South Delhi and often sees slow-moving traffic, especially during office hours.
Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma shared details of the project and said the government approved it after a detailed feasibility study. He said the aim is to improve travel, reduce waiting time, and make traffic smoother.
The minister said this road is important because it will help solve one of the biggest traffic bottlenecks in South Delhi.
Right now, people travelling through this area often get stuck at signals and intersections, leading to long delays.
The new elevated road is expected to change that.
According to the Public Works Department (PWD), around 82,800 cars use this 4-kilometre road every day. During peak hours, traffic rises to about 4,900 cars per hour.
This heavy traffic causes serious congestion.
At present, the average speed of vehicles on this road is only 12.7 kilometres per hour. That means even short distances take a long time.
Once the elevated road is built, the average speed is expected to increase to 36.4 kilometres per hour.
This will save a lot of time for people travelling to Gurgaon and nearby areas.
Officials believe nearly 75,000 vehicles will directly benefit from this project every day.
The biggest reason for traffic jams on this stretch is the signal at Anuvrat Marg.
According to the PWD study, the traffic problem is not because the road is too small, but because vehicles get delayed at the main intersection.
When one signal gets crowded, the entire stretch becomes slow.
The elevated corridor will remove this problem by allowing vehicles to move without stopping.
This means no traffic lights, fewer jams, and smoother driving.
For office workers, students, and daily travellers, this could make a huge difference.
Saving 10 to 12 minutes every day may seem small, but over weeks and months, it adds up.
It can also reduce fuel use and lower pollution because cars will spend less time stuck in traffic.

The new corridor will also help reduce traffic in many nearby areas.
At present, vehicles from Mehrauli, Lado Sarai, Saket, and Sainik Farm use SSN Marg to reach Chhatarpur and Fatehpur Beri.
Because of this, these roads stay crowded for most of the day.
Once the elevated road is ready, traffic will move faster, and nearby roads will also become less crowded.
This will be a big relief for local residents.
The project will also improve connectivity to the Qutub Minar Metro station.
This is important because many people use the metro for daily travel and need better road access to reach the station.
