A shocking murder case has come to light from Gorakhpur district in Uttar Pradesh, where a 25-year-old man allegedly killed his father with an axe while he was sleeping outside their home. Police have arrested the accused and started an investigation to find out the exact reason behind the crime.
The incident took place in Jungle Ayodhya Prasad village on Thursday morning. According to police, the victim, identified as 55-year-old Brahmadev Kannaujia, was sleeping on a cot outside his house after having dinner on Wednesday night. His younger son, Golu Kannaujia, is accused of attacking him with an axe in the middle of the night.
Police said the accused hit his father seven to eight times on the head and neck. The attack was so severe that Brahmadev died on the spot. The brutal nature of the crime has left the entire village in shock.
Family members and neighbours woke up after hearing screams and noise from the spot. They rushed outside and found Brahmadev lying in a pool of blood. Soon after, the police were informed. Officers reached the village around 3 am and began their investigation.
The body was later sent for post-mortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death. Police have also collected evidence from the crime scene.
According to villagers, Golu had been under stress for quite some time. Some people said he was upset because a woman he was reportedly in love with got married to someone else. This may have deeply affected him.
Villagers also said his behaviour had changed in recent months. Many noticed that he had become more aggressive and disturbed. Some people claimed that he often stayed quiet and looked mentally troubled.
Family members told police that Golu had been suffering from mental illness for the past seven to eight years. They said he had been receiving treatment, but his condition had become worse after his mother passed away around six months ago.
The death of his mother had a deep impact on him, according to family members. They said he was emotionally weak after losing her and had become more unstable in recent months.
Police are now checking whether his mental health played a role in the murder. However, officials said they are also looking at other possible reasons such as family disputes or personal tensions.

Circle Officer Ravi Kumar Singh said the accused has been taken into custody and is being questioned. Police want to understand what exactly happened and what pushed him to take such a serious step.
“The exact reason behind the murder is still not clear. We are investigating all possible angles,” the officer said.
Police are speaking to family members, neighbours and other villagers to collect more information. They are trying to find out whether there were any arguments or tensions between the father and son before the incident.
Officials are also studying Golu’s medical history to confirm the claims of mental illness. This may help them understand his condition at the time of the attack.
The murder has deeply shocked the local community. Many villagers said Brahmadev was a simple man and had no major disputes with anyone. They said it was hard to believe that his own son could attack him in such a violent way.
