
Chandigarh, 18 June, 2026: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended Sub Inspector Amandeep Singh posted at Anti Narcotic Task Force, Jalandhar red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 1,00,000/-.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by a resident of village Gohawar PS Goraya district Jalandhar.
He informed that the complainant alleged that a case under the NDPS Act had been registered against her brother and SI Amandeep Singh had been threatening to implicate other family members and initiate proceedings against their properties. Complainant further alleged that the accused had already taken bribe money Rs. 6.50 lakh from her on different occasions and was demanding another Rs. 2 lakh to spare her sister-in-law from being nominated in the case. The complainant recorded the conversation regarding demanding bribe.
Unwilling to pay the remaining illegal gratification, complainant approached the VB Unit Kapurthala. Acting on his complaint, the VB team laid a trap during which the accused SI was arrested red handed while accepting bribe money of Rs 1,00,000/- from the complainant in presence of two official witnesses. During the trap, Constable Maninder Singh, who was accompanying the accused SI, fled from the spot along with the vehicle. The tainted currency notes were recovered from his possession.
In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Jalandhar and further investigation into this case is under progress.
