LUDHIANA — Public panics as more minors disappear in Ludhiana. There have been reports that  at least 13 girls have gone missing, following which 11 FIRs across multiple police stations have been made. Social media is fueling the panic among commoners by making theories about kidnapping rings having a hand in these disappearances.

Seeing the panic and rumors, the Punjab State Women’s Commission intervened, demanding an immediate, detailed investigation report.

The fear has only escalated as three more minors going missing this week were reported. The Ludhiana Police Commissionerate issues an urgent statement directly denying the existence of a criminal abduction racket.

"Investigations indicate that the girls reported missing had not been kidnapped, abducted, or forcibly taken away by any individual or organized group," the official statement read.

The Investigation So Far

  1. According to top officials, inquiries suggest most of the minors left their homes voluntarily.
  2. Police teams have already traced and safely returned four of the missing girls to their families.

The three girls–aged 14, 15, and 16– tracked down to a village in Uttar Pradesh. Which raises panic in the general public making the beliefs of a kidnapping ring more concrete.

  1. While police rule out a coordinated syndicate, several individual criminal cases have been filed.

Multiple FIRs have been registered against men accused of luring minor girls—some as young as 13 and 16—away from their homes under the false pretext of marriage.

Public Urged to Remain Calm

With technical surveillance and field inquiries actively underway to locate the remaining minors, authorities are pleading with the public to halt the spread of unverified rumors.

The Commissionerate has strongly appealed to citizens not to panic or circulate social media posts that fuel unnecessary fear and anxiety across the state.
