  In accordance with the Ministry of Railways' Action Plan for World Environment Day–2026 on the theme “Climate Change”, Delhi Division of Northern Railway has been actively organizing a series of environmental awareness and sustainability initiatives from 15th May 2026 onwards under the Mission LiFE framework.
       During the campaign period, extensive awareness drives were conducted at railway stations, offices and railway colonies to promote climate-conscious behaviour, reduction of single-use plastic, waste segregation and adoption of sustainable lifestyles. Passengers and railway employees were sensitized through public announcements, posters, banners and interpersonal communication regarding environmental conservation and responsible waste management practices and Nukkad Natak were also organized at various Railway Stations over Delhi Division. Special drives were carried out at stations to encourage travellers to "Carry Your Own Water Bottle" and also promotions of Cloth/jute bags, Eco-friendly products under One Station One product scheme.
       Special cleanliness drives were carried out at stations, railway colonies and railway premises. Awareness activities focusing on proper waste segregation, plastic waste reduction and use of eco-friendly alternatives were organized. Water refill facilities and Plastic Bottle Crushing Machines were inspected and monitored to encourage reduction in the use of disposable plastic bottles. Vendors and stakeholders were also sensitized regarding compliance with the ban on single-use plastics and the promotion of environmentally sustainable practices and competitions were organized (drawing, essay, quiz) on environment and climate change at various railway colonies.
        As part of the World Environment Day–2026 campaign, Delhi Division undertook plantation drives on a large scale to promote environmental sustainability and environmental awareness programmes and cleanliness, approximately 6,637 saplings were planted across the entire Delhi Division, covering railway colonies, service buildings and railway premises under the “EkPedMaaKeNaam” initiative. This large-scale plantation effort significantly contributed by Officers and staff of the division towards enhancing green cover and supporting climate change mitigation.
         In addition, awareness programmes on water conservation, energy efficiency, recycling, e-waste management and sustainable living were conducted. Railway employees and residents participated enthusiastically. The division will also undertake awareness campaigns to encourage passengers and the general public to adopt eco-friendly practices and contribute towards a cleaner and greener environment.
          Today, Sh. Pushpesh Raman Tripathi Divisional Railway Manager, Delhi administered environmental pledge to the officers and staff at DRM office, New Delhi. Saplings were planted in DRM office as part of the World Environment day celebrations. Pledge was administered at stations, Sheds, Coaching depots, offices of Delhi Division. Delhi Division remains committed to supporting the national objectives of environmental sustainability and Mission LiFE through continuous public participation and environmentally responsible railway operations.
