New Delhi: Central Board of Secondary Education has started the List of Candidates (LOC) submission process for the Class 10 May Examination 2026. Schools can now complete the registration process through the official website CBSE at cbse.gov.in.
The board will conduct the second Class 10 examination from May 15, 2026. This exam gives students another opportunity to improve their scores or appear in subjects under the new system.
The LOC submission window has opened and will remain available till April 20, 2026. Schools and students are advised to complete the required process within the deadline to avoid last-minute issues.
The examination fee payment process has also been divided into phases.
For the first and second phases, fee payment can be made from April 16 to April 20. For the third phase, the payment window will remain open from April 21 to April 22.
CBSE has also released important instructions regarding who can apply, who can withdraw, and what subject changes are allowed.
The board said students who want to appear in the second exam but whose names were not submitted earlier during the first phase can now submit their names and pay the examination fee.
Students whose names had already been submitted earlier can now pay the fee if pending.
At the same time, candidates who had registered previously but no longer wish to appear in the May exam can withdraw their names.
This flexibility is expected to help students make decisions after reviewing their main board exam results.
CBSE has also allowed a Mathematics subject option change for students appearing in the May examination.
Students who had chosen Mathematics Standard in the main exam can now switch to Mathematics Basic for the second exam.
Similarly, students who had chosen Mathematics Basic can now opt for Mathematics Standard.
However, the board has clearly stated that no other subject changes will be allowed.
This means only the Mathematics level can be changed, while other subjects must remain the same.
The second board examination will also allow students who have passed to improve their performance.
Eligible students can appear in up to three subjects chosen from Science, Mathematics, Social Science and Languages.
This gives students a chance to increase marks and strengthen their academic record for future admissions.
Students often use improvement exams to boost percentages for Class 11 admissions or scholarship opportunities.
CBSE has also clarified that students placed in the ER category are not eligible for the second examination.
The ER category generally refers to students whose result status does not meet the required eligibility norms for this improvement attempt.
Students and parents are advised to read the official circular carefully for full details.
Since the LOC process is handled through schools, students should stay in contact with their school administration to ensure correct subject selection, fee payment and timely submission.
Errors in registration details may create problems later, so careful verification is important.

Alongside the May exam update, CBSE has already declared the Class 10 board examination results for 2026.
This year, more than 23 lakh students successfully passed the examination.
According to official figures, 23,16,008 students cleared the exam.
The overall pass percentage stood at 93.70 per cent.
Girls once again performed better than boys in the national results.
The pass percentage of girl students was 94.99 per cent, while boys recorded 92.69 per cent.
Region-wise, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada recorded the highest pass percentage at 99.79 per cent.
Chennai followed with 99.58 per cent, while Bengaluru recorded 98.91 per cent.
These numbers show consistently strong performance from southern regions in the CBSE board exams.
Students can check their results through the official portals of CBSE, including cbse.gov.in and results.cbse.nic.in.
The May examination now becomes an important next opportunity for students who want better scores.
Experts say students should use this second chance wisely by focusing only on weak subjects rather than overloading themselves.
Good planning, revision strategy and proper time management can help improve marks significantly in one month.
Students should review previous mistakes, practise sample papers and clarify doubts quickly.
Parents are also advised to support students calmly rather than creating pressure.
The second board exam is designed as an opportunity, not a punishment.
It gives students a fair second attempt to perform better and strengthen confidence.
With the registration process now open, schools and students should complete the LOC submission quickly and begin preparation for the May 15 examination.
Those hoping to improve results should treat the coming weeks seriously.
For many students, this second exam could make a meaningful difference in their academic journey.
