The ₹116.84 crore fake Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR) scam in the accounts of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has raised serious questions about the functioning of the civic body. In protest against this major financial scam, Aam Aadmi Party councillors staged a strong demonstration in the Municipal Corporation House today.
Leader of Opposition Hardeep Singh, Yogesh Dhingra, former Mayor Kuldeep Kumar, Jasbir Singh Laddi, Munawwar Khan, Jaswinder Kaur, Neha Musawat, Anju Katyal, and Ramchandra Yadav, along with all AAP councillors, protested strongly in the House by displaying placards against the corruption.
Party leaders alleged that the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has become a hub of corruption, where public money is being continuously misused. They stated that this is not the first such case, and several scams have surfaced earlier as well.
Referring specifically to the CREST scam, the leaders pointed out that bankers associated with IDFC First Bank have already been accused in a separate ₹83 crore CREST fund diversion case. In continuation, the ₹116.84 crore fake FDR scam has now come to light, involving former managers of IDFC First Bank and other individuals.
The Aam Aadmi Party has demanded a fair and time-bound investigation into the entire matter and strict action against those responsible, to prevent such incidents of corruption in the future.
The party also reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public funds and made it clear that corruption will not be tolerated at any cost.
???? Public money must be spent on the public — it will not be sacrificed to corruption!
