The Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttarakhand, Deepam Seth, recently chaired a high-level meeting in Dehradun to review the law and order situation in the city. The meeting was held at the Police Headquarters in response to growing concerns over recent criminal incidents reported in the state capital.
Several senior police officials attended the meeting, including Inspector General (IG) Garhwal Rajiv Swaroop, IG Special Task Force (STF) Nilesh Anand Bharne, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun Pramendra Dobhal, and SSP STF Ajay Singh. The presence of top officials highlighted the seriousness of the situation and the need for immediate action.
During the meeting, the DGP stressed the importance of maintaining strict law and order in Dehradun. He instructed all officers to remain alert and ensure that policing is carried out effectively across the city. Clear responsibilities were assigned to senior officials to improve coordination and accountability within the police force.
The DGP directed IG Garhwal to closely monitor the law and order situation on a daily basis. He also asked the SSP Dehradun to assign specific duties to officers at different levels and ensure that they are held accountable for their performance.
One of the key decisions taken during the meeting was to increase police presence in sensitive areas. The DGP instructed Circle Officers and Station House Officers to stay active in the field and maintain a visible presence, especially in crime-prone locations.
He also emphasised the need for stricter checking at police barriers. This step is aimed at preventing the movement of criminals and keeping a close watch on suspicious activities. Special attention will be given to early morning hours, which are often considered vulnerable for certain types of crimes.
The DGP further directed the Special Task Force (STF) to launch targeted operations against known criminals in Dehradun. The STF has been asked to identify active criminal elements and take strict action against them. These operations are expected to help reduce crime and improve public safety.
Another important step discussed in the meeting was the verification drive. Police have been instructed to carry out thorough checks of tenants living in rented accommodations, including paying guest (PG) facilities and homestays. This is being done to ensure that no suspicious individuals are staying in the city without proper identification.
The DGP also raised concerns about bars and pubs operating beyond permitted hours. He ordered strict action against establishments that do not follow rules. Ensuring compliance with closing time regulations is seen as an important step in controlling late-night disturbances and unlawful activities.

Along with the police department, the state government is also taking steps to improve the situation. Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan held a separate meeting with senior officials from the Home and Police Departments to review the law and order condition in Dehradun.
During this meeting, the Chief Secretary expressed concern over the rise in incidents such as road rage and public misconduct. He directed officials to take strict action against those involved in such activities.
To improve safety, he ordered an increase in police patrolling across the city and nearby areas. The SSP Dehradun has been asked to ensure that police stations strengthen their patrol systems during both day and night. In addition, morning patrols are also being increased to cover early hours effectively.
The Chief Secretary also stressed the importance of maintaining discipline in public places. He warned that Dehradun should not become a centre for uncontrolled parties and unruly behaviour, especially during weekends.
Bar and restaurant owners have been instructed to strictly follow the rules regarding closing times. Authorities plan to sensitise business owners about these regulations and ensure that they cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
The focus is not only on punishing offenders but also on preventing crimes before they happen. By increasing police visibility, improving monitoring systems, and ensuring strict enforcement of rules, the administration aims to create a safer environment for residents.
In conclusion, the high-level meetings led by the Uttarakhand DGP and Chief Secretary show that the government is taking the recent rise in crime seriously. With clear instructions, increased police presence, and special operations, authorities are working to control the situation in Dehradun.
