Tensions in the Middle East rose sharply on Saturday after Israel, with support from the United States, carried out major strikes on Iran. The attacks hit several sensitive military and intelligence sites, and soon after, explosions and emergency alerts were reported across parts of the Gulf region. The situation remains fast-moving, with multiple countries taking precautionary steps.
According to early reports, Israel launched a series of powerful strikes targeting at least 30 locations inside Iran. The targets reportedly included military facilities in Qom and Isfahan, as well as buildings linked to Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence, Ministry of Defense, the Parchin military complex, and the Atomic Energy Agency. Witnesses in Tehran said thick smoke was seen rising from parts of the capital after loud explosions.
Iranian state television confirmed that blasts had occurred but did not immediately provide details about the scale of damage or casualties. Officials in Tehran have so far issued limited public statements, though Iranian sources warned that the country is preparing a strong response.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later addressed the nation and confirmed that the operation was conducted jointly with the United States. He described Iran as an “existential threat” and said the mission aimed to stop Tehran from developing nuclear weapons. He also urged Israeli citizens to follow safety instructions issued by authorities.
US President Donald Trump also confirmed the strikes in a video message. He warned Iranian military forces to lay down their weapons and told Iranian citizens to remain indoors because the situation was dangerous. His remarks signaled strong US backing for the military operation.
Following the strikes, Israel declared a nationwide state of emergency. The Israeli military said the country would shift to essential services only, meaning schools and public gatherings were suspended and most workplaces closed. Air raid sirens were sounded in several Israeli cities, including Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, as a precaution against possible Iranian retaliation.
Iran soon responded. Reports indicated that Tehran launched at least 30 missiles toward Israel, targeting multiple cities including Haifa. The full impact of those launches is still being assessed.

The military escalation quickly spread anxiety across the wider Gulf region. Explosions were reported in several locations, including Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Doha. Authorities in Bahrain issued an emergency alert asking residents to move to safe locations and follow official instructions.
Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency claimed Iranian forces had targeted multiple US-linked military bases across the Gulf. These reportedly included Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, and the US Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain. Independent confirmation of damage at all these sites is still limited.
In response to the rising threat level, Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates closed their airspace. Qatar Airways temporarily suspended all flights. The aviation disruptions affected international travel across the region, and at least one Air India flight from Delhi to Tel Aviv was diverted to Mumbai after Israeli airspace was shut.
India also issued safety advisories. The Indian Embassy in Israel urged Indian nationals to remain highly vigilant and follow instructions from Israeli authorities. A similar advisory was issued by the Indian Embassy in Doha for citizens living in Qatar.
Meanwhile, additional explosions were reported in western Iran, including in Urmia and Ilam, suggesting the strikes may be continuing in phases. Early Israeli reports even suggested a possible assassination attempt on Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, though Iranian officials later said the president and senior intelligence leaders were safe.
Cyber concerns also emerged, with reports that major Iranian news platforms IRNA and ISNA were hacked during the unfolding crisis. This added another layer of uncertainty to the already volatile situation.
Diplomatic observers warn that the conflict could widen if retaliatory attacks continue. The Middle East is already on high alert, and global markets and airlines are closely watching developments.
For now, governments across the region are urging citizens to remain cautious while military forces stay on standby. With both sides exchanging strikes and strong warnings, the coming hours are expected to be critical in determining whether the situation stabilizes or escalates further.
